Learning 3D printing

Like many, coming from out of state, it’s easy to judge CA when you visit some place like LA County or the Bay Area and assume the entire rest of the state is the same

Gas around me is 4.19 to 4.29 for 87, or 4.59 if you’re going to Chevron or the sort

Upwards of 4.79 for the most expensive stuff if you’re trying to pay more

When my friend and I drove out to Utah, through Nevada and such coming from California, gas was probably the highest closest to Vegas and about the same everywhere else (even with California)

It was a bit more expensive too out near Reno when we stayed at another friends house just 2 months ago

Man that’s a great price for CA. I have been all over CA and haven’t seen anything less than $5 in the last six months. Highest I paid was in Weaverville.

Here are some (about 3/4 of them) of the places I have been the past year in CA

Anyway like I said it’s all in the eye of the beholder. Check out this 3d print I found. :winking_face_with_tongue::joy:

Onto the topic of 3D printing, I will need to request the assistance of someone here!

I’ve never made an enclosure, so I’d like to have a two piece enclosure that basically “snaps” together or something.

Since I now have a 3D printer, I thought I’d make one for my controller as I literally just sit it on an anti-static bag whenever I need to plug it in for anything.

It would be so much better to have it enclosed.

Design is easy in CAD. Just need to limit your sizes to the build area, and then design a “snap together” point and method. Slip lock works well too (dove tail, rod and bore…)

Yeah, I’m new to 3D printing and don’t do anything in 3D so….I’ll draw up a dove tail then or similar.

Oh, Well then.

Give your specs on enclosure size. All I do is in 3d

I mean it took no time at all to draw, maybe like 2 minutes.

I just meant the actual feature of adding a “snap” or something to allow two pieces of plastic to be joined together physically.

Let me test print my drawing before I share a file first otherwise dimensions could be off.

Edit: Disregard. Got it easily on the first try actually as it’s a nice and tight slip fit.

It’s a little pricey. I’ve owned my X1 carbon for 2 years now and no other machine I’ve purchased before as ever brought me so much joy. Fully outfitted for me it’s about $4,700 Canadian that’s what the high-powered laser.

Right now I have to spend some money on buying a new Windows 11 mothership. But that printer is on my radar for the near future. I’d like to see some comments of how well it actually works and how it’s going to wear over a few months.

It’s bamboo lab.

I would be extremely surprised if there’s any harsh negative reviews on this once the influencers start posting their vids .

All of the influencers and makers have already been test driving theirs for over a month I’m sure. It will probably be a few little glitches that will need some firmware tweaking once they roll out in Mass to all of the people.

Joel from the 3d printing nerd channel had a few issues with his review unit.

One of the nozzles clogged and he found that it was nearly impossible to clear the stuck filament. He heated it to try to clear the filament and the heat ruined the magnets that hold it to the tool changer and print head. They are basically trash if they get clogged.

The other issue is very uneven heating of the print bed, which caused bed adhesion issues with prints.

Thought I’d build some stands for some of my portable consoles

Have to say I really like the silk PLA

Multi-color stuff doesn’t look bad either, just going to trust this online site to match the right filament color for what I need

Gameboy Light has something like a Bahama Blue and Aqua Blue Marina look to it, and I haven’t even bothered to color match the Gameboy Color logo yet

nice modeling.

Now the issue is color-matching.

I found a site called Filamentcolors.xyz but many choices suggested cover types that aren’t applicable (TPU, ASA, etc). That or I’m hesitant if the submitted results are accurate enough to run with.

The Sunlu silk was definitely a bit bright and doesn’t go well with the NGPC so I may redo that one later down the road

But I was surprised to see that the Sunlu Midnight matches some of the font on the DMG

I’ll have to redo it as well but keeping with the Midnight font and looking for a better gray to match the console
