Learning 3D printing

Time to start saving. Q1 2025. I would buy unseen right now whatever it’s going to be.

My expectations are sci-fi reality bending level.
I’m still mesmerized by my Bambu X1 carbon almost a year in.
The X1 carbon came out 3 years ago. They’ve had a lot of time to work on this.

Nice work!! I think the ability to take simple problem-solving widgets from concept to reality is my favorite part about 3d printing!

I am excited to see what they have come up with and what you create with your new printer!

X1C was officially available for purchase this month 2 years ago. Prior was a Kickstarter. I’ve had one since Nov '22, and have added a few more BL printers. Every single other company is still playing catchup. Metal printing is honestly the only thing I care about going forward. Plastic printing may still get refinements and a little speed bump but no revolution will come until we can all print at a low cost in materials besides plastic.

Cool new tool changer idea.

That would be fun to work on a team with a goal like that.

Too bad they still won’t say if it’s bigger than the X1.

This dog print which matches the dummy 13 print is very good and I highly recommend it.

Printed a ton of them in different colors. One of these nights I’ll sit down with kids and build.

PLA-CF or PLA for the armor and PLA-CF for the skeleton.

I am currently in the middle of a 23 hour print using .94 kg of filament. This is a storage/organizer for my wife. (scissors, seam ripper, glue sticks, etc)

The first attempt a corner started lifting up. Redesigned so there was room for a brim. So far, so good with 4 hours and 19 minutes to go.

That seems heavy - are you doing it with 100% fill? It seems like the walls would be sturdy enough with a 10% full and way faster.

25% infill with 4 walls inner/outer.

Perhaps I could have reduced things but my wife is rough on things sometimes. :grimacing:

Printed these. Model is from Makerworld, and then I spent a fair bit of time getting the color painting in Bambu Studio done and clean enough. 3-1/2 days to print 2 about 6" in diameter on a single plate. Took a while to get them both to fit along with tree supports that could reach in through the mouths and eyes to support the inside roof.

For the keen eyed, I bet you can see where the machine switched rolls of orange filament.

Thanks alot Henry…Now my wife wants me to print that

EDIT: I don’t have any orange filament!!!

And, I don’t know where I could possibly get any before Halloween!? :man_shrugging:

Bambu usually gets me filament within about a week when I order from them. I’ve been mostly printing with their filament to keep colors in the AMS units organized. I got a second X1C last week with the AMS (and an A1-mini for me/my son), and I had one already with 2 AMS units. With up to 16 spools to track its nice not to have to remember to set the filament colors 90% of the time.

I actually printed them for my wife. :joy:

Her office does a pumpkin carving contest every year and she asked me to do it for her this year. I figured no one else would be entering a printed pumpkin, and it sounded cooler than carving up a small pumpkin.

Everyone that’s seen them thinks they’re awesome. I’ve already rated and boosted the design on Makerworld.

I was teasing about finding the filament.

AMS: Yes. That is the way to go. I have two of them. I rarely need all 8 slots but it is great to have the replacement spools all lined up.

Yep. You picked a good one.

Never would have looked for it, nor seen it, had you not brought our attention to it.

Now that would make quite the novelty knife with the skull at the butt end of the knife and the bolster have the skeleton arms crossed. Not practical at all but quite the spectacle.

Or the bolster could be the pelvis of the skeleton.
