Langmuir going to update CC on Mac?

Title of the thread. CutControl is still running the original version as far as I can tell for Mac. I realize the bulk of people are running on Windows, and I would be too, but my windows laptop has some weirdness to it and after it froze mid movement a couple times, I stopped using it. I’d prefer to use my mac for actually running the programs, but being on the original CC release is a bit of a bummer.

Any idea from the Langmuir folks if this is in the works or not? Even if it was just 24.1.1 so we could use the updates to the probe would be nice

It seems, the only thing in the works for Langmuir is new sales. I wouldn’t hold my breath for any software updates for the MR-1 (like some of us made the mistake of doing for 2 years), it’s old news.

You will probably have more success using an AI coding tool like Claude Code to rip apart the windows package and repackage it for MacOS. Because it’s a java app, such an exercise is pretty easy.

I’ve actually already done such a thing on this other post.

I haven’t put either the decompiled or recompiled source code anywhere other than my personal machine. It’s kind of a crummy situation… the community is strong and would readily support forks and improvements but because the control software is proprietary and the MR1 isn’t enough $$$ for Langmuir, they’ve basically frozen progress on the whole platform. Too bad because it really is a great machine.

Would really be nice if they officially allowed not-for-profit forks of their software.

Yeah, the software lack of updates has been a real bummer and definitely soured me a bit on the company. I was in the initial order set and other than the drains, I’ve been really happy with the overall mechanicals of the machine.

That’s an interesting idea on using an AI coding tool though (and an actual good use of AI lol), I’ll probably give that a shot and see where it lands me. I was running the machine all of yesterday on my mac and ran into a couple glitches that I remember from the initial release lol. Thankfully I remembered how to bypass them haha
