Kobalt 2 stage 60 gallon air compressor frozen cylinder

I’ve had this compressor since March, but didn’t hook it up until I got my table several weeks ago. It was running along fine when all of a sudden it just froze up. Just wondering if this is a rare incident or should I be looking for a different brand?

I think it’s a Campbell-Hausfield pump…they and Lowes (Kobalt) should stand behind it and fix / replace. If they don’t then I’d get something else. That being said, you sure it’s a frozen cylinder? It won’t turn at all? I’d guess the motor would go bad (or a capacitor) before the pump.

Now that I see your comment, it could very well be the motor/capacitor… it will not turn at all. Lowes is replacing it. We’re gone for a camping trip Saturday to Saturday. They are delivering it the Saturday we get back. I sure hope I can depend on this next one! What are you running for your air demand?

I went with a Quincy QT-54 that I picked up at Northern Tool (it’s an east of Rockies chain tool store if you are on west coast)…I’ve been very happy with it, but it was more $ than I planned to spend. I almost got the Kobalt 60 gal. I’d expect Lowes will stand behind theirs warranty wise - glad to hear they are replacing.

Yeah, I’d like to have that Quincy! I sure don’t mind paying for quality! I’m not shitting on Kobalt, just hate to have my confidence shaken at all. And I didn’t expect to have requests from people so, I had things I really needed to get done this week. All good though. It’ll bounce back.

Make sure it’s got oil and I had to break mine in by running it for an hour with the valve open (so it wouldn’t build tank pressure) to seat everything. Not sure if they recommend that on the kobalt, but it might be worth doing on the new one to see if it has any issues from the get go. If it has a manufacturing defect, it will probably show up pretty quick.

They did recommend it for 30 minutes. I did 45 just to be sure. I’ll level is good. That was the first thing I checked.
