Keyhole in 2x2 steel tube

Hello All. Question for you. 2x2 Steel tube .25" wall, plain carbon steel. I want to cut this keyhole on one side only. Razorweld45. Crossfire pro. I will make a jig to place the 8’ pieces and line the nozzle with a marked spot for the larger diameter section.

Will this blow out the back side? There are cases where I may need to have a hole on one side and go straight out the back. Is this going to require flipping and cutting again for best result? I assume it will require flipping but wanted to see what you guys already learned on doing this.

On carbon steel, since it will get wet can I just let it dry and spray rustoleum inside the cuts and have some rust prevention? The steel goes inside walls in

a house and wont get direct water but i want to make some effort against rust.

Thanks for any tips.

No, plasma will not cut through both the front and back of your steel tube (whether intentional or not).

Just flip it over.

Ok great thanks for the help.

Would it be worth sliding in another piece of flat metal inside the tube to help with cleanup of the inside of the tube? It may not be an issue but it seems like it would make a heck of a mess inside the tube.

you mean put in some metal before cutting to have a buffer and reduce splatter on the inside surface?

Yes, that is what I was thinking.

Easy enough to do I would for sure

I cut a 1/2" wide x 56" long slit in stainless 2" round tube for a guy last week, slag slid right out of tube when I took off table. No need to put anything inside, dont overthink.

So you would never slide anything inside when cutting tube? would dia play a role? would stainless act different the carbon steel?
There has to be a point where you could only cut so wide of a slot on 2" round tube, Were you close at 1/2"
I would like to have seen that pretty cool. Did it warp the tube at all?

slide something inside on 1" and smaller. 1/2" would be max I would do on 2" round tube, come out great.
You could go wider if you did single line cut, rotate tube and do another single line cut and use cutting torch to snip ends. I drew up the slot run it through sheetcam and cut. Never had problem with slag on inside of other steel.

no warpage, tube was .250 wall thickness

Here is pics of 1" wide slot out of 3" round tube 51.5" long cut. I will take pics of tube on table next time I do cuts on tube.
