It's been awhile. Post those projects!

Thanks guys a really fun project :beers:

She’s a beauty to be sure. An excellent restoration by one and all.

Space Force has been cut, so has the Navy and Army I’m just waiting to finish my sandblast cabinet expansion so I can get them painted then I’ll post them up. These are all about 24" diameter, except the USMC which is about to be redone and bumped up to 24.

This is pretty simple hook I produce, that goes with whats called a Banana Rack. Here is the hook I build from scratch. I do have the flat pieces laser cut (might try plasma next time) as the holes are 3/16" and have to be pretty good.

This is how it comes off the laser. 14ga HR

This is the fixture I made to bend it, mounted to a old Arbor press. Works well

After bending

This how I bend the 3/16" CR round. This was a cheap bender I bought maybe $75 and it works good, I did remake part of it because it was to sloppy.

This is the fixture I made to hold everything for welding, I just plug weld from the back.

ready for clean up on a wire wheel.

Ready for paint! I sub these out as it takes me way to long to paint them. I will take 300-400 at a time and then box them up till I have a order for some. Each rack gets 84 hooks

Not very exciting but I like that I make 90% of the part in house and can make money doing it. :grinning:

Here is the Seal of the Navy, all service branches are now done including Space Force. I’ll post Army and Space Force later today when the paint is dry.

As promised here are the last two service branch seals. All six are now done, they are all roughly 24" diameter except the USMC, that needs to be redone altogether I think.

Are you cleaning the mill scale off or giving it a grinded surface treatment first?

12 seat Teppanyaki grill stand. Large pieces are cut from 1/4 plate 100" long. Used a 4’x8’ and a 4’x12’ sheet of 1/4" plate. It was a PITA.

Wow that is huge! What do you think it weighs? Are you building this for you or a restaurant?

It is on the back patio of a huge house. I guess they entertain a lot. The weight of the uncut metal was around 1100 lbs. I have one of those magnetic lifting magnets you can turn on and off by a lever. Impossible to do it without it.

What brand magnet you buy, I have been looking on innerweb haven’t pulled trigger on which one to buy.

I bought a used Vestil 300Kg off Offer up for $100.00

How big of a sheet can you lift with just one magnet? or do you use two? I was thinking of two as I see sheet curl effects the capacity of the magnet.

I lifted a 4’x12’ 1/4" sheet but that was close to max weight rating for the one I have. The make bigger ones that lift a lot more weight. Yes curl can effect it. You have to put magnet sideways so it gets less of the curl effecting it.

Good to know, I am sure having one makes it much easier to get it where you want it.
I think I will try one to start.

Thanks

I sandblast the mill scale off the public facing side, the other side I just grind/flap off the dross to smooth the edges.

I’ve found a twisted wire 4" wheel whips the dross off faster then a flapwheel. Lincoln Electric KH305 Knotted Wire Wheel Brush, 20000 rpm, 4" Diameter x 1/2" Face Width, 5/8" x 11 UNC Arbor (Pack of 1) https://a.co/d/epdpdpv
