Are you doing all your own powder coating?
We just started learning to do our own.
These last couple posts is some powder coating done by us.
There is a company in town that has a bigger powder coater and bigger oven that we’ve been having larger batches of powder coating done at.
We are hoping to gear up with a bigger gun and bigger oven this year but in the meantime we will practice.
There’s definitely a trick to powder coating but I sure like it better than paint.
How big was your initial investment to get started with powder coating?
Can I ask where you got those bottle chains/clamps?
I made them from basic over-center latches and roller chain.
I haven’t been on this site for a while, sorry. I use a Mapp gas torch for bluing. I just put the piece on the concrete and start heating, moving a lot to keep the heat somewhat even. It takes a bit for the color to start changing but once it does, it goes quickly from beautiful to crap. The color will start to change from tan to brown, to purple to blue to light blue. Once it goes beyond the color you want, you can only get it back by grinding the cur face and starting over. It just takes some practice. You can not blue stainless steel unfortunately so after I torch blue, I lacquer coat to prevent corrosion . Thinner pieces and small webs will pick up heat much faster a blue faster.
Great! Thanks for sharing. Will pick up a bottle of Mapp gas tomorrow.
Your pedal looks awesome. Impressive brake work.
need more pics
make more stuff
Couple more projects I made. One is for my daughter. The other is a sign I’m working on. Both are out of 20 gauge steel.
White powder is snow white
The blue powder is intense blue
look nice…mine would be…Always stay kind of humble…
This is an art piece we did. Tree of life motif. More of a sentimental thing for our family (not a commercial thing). I think we’re getting cut parameters dialed in pretty well. About 18’ x 26’
Made a fixture plate that quickly clamps true in my new Kurt DX6 vise, and setup my rotary to try making a 17-tooth pinion on the mill. Went well I think
seriously nice work…
Looks great. Is that a concrete top?
Yes. It’s 1/2" of concrete over a double 3/4" plywood base. It gives the look and feel of concrete without the weight.
