Identifying Gen1 vs. Gen2 CrossFire

Whether you own an older CrossFire and are just getting the chance to set it up, or recently purchased a used CrossFire, one of the first things you will want to do is identify whether your CrossFire machine is compatible with Mach3 (Gen1) or FireControl (Gen2).

There are cosmetic differences between the CNC electronics enclosures that indicate which software the CrossFire is compatible with. Gen1 CrossFire machines have colorful blue, green, red, and yellow markings around the ports, and are compatible with Mach3. Gen2 CrossFire machines have more simple white and burgundy markings around the ports, and are compatible with FireControl.

Our Mach3 tutorial series can be found here: CUT with Mach3 | Langmuir Systems

Our FireControl user guide can be found here: CUT with FireControl | Langmuir Systems

If you purchased a Mach3 license from Langmuir Systems in 2018/2019, you can find instructions to obtain your Mach3 license at this separate forum topic: Licensing Mach3 Full Version - Troubleshooting Guide

If your CrossFire currently uses Mach3 and you would prefer to use FireControl instead, you can purchase the Gen1 version of the CrossFire Z-axis + THC upgrade kit: CrossFire Z-Axis + THC Upgrade Kit – Langmuir Systems

Someone has been busy upgrading the images! Nice!

I went thru the “FireControl” version. Nice to have the added labels and highlights on the FireControl screen as well as on the table. Thank you, whoever is responsible.
