I like my MR1 but other companies are moving fast!

My friend has a Onefinity CNC, not nearly as heavy a machine as the MR1 and it’s been around for about as long (the latest version), but I am pretty amazed at that company. They just announced in the last week:

  • 64w laser
  • A new Spindle system
  • 4th axis system rotary system

and last but not least:

  • Automatic Tool changer (using arbours like our machine).

Details are here for kicks: https://www.youtube.com/@OnefinityCNC/videos

So sure, not as industrial as our machines, but I was talking to him and he asked what is new on my MR1 … and I had nothing … :frowning:

Any good stuff coming so I can brag back?

Cheers,

Mike

Is your friend machining steel and stainless steel in his machine?
If so what kind of inches per minute?

You could tell him nothing’s new just confidently making parts everyday.

I’ve been looking at getting a machine for routering wood.

I was looking at the maslo 4.1 very different style machine but I like the idea.

I’m planning to buy the Sienci Labs Altmill, when I clear out some space for it. It’s an amazingly powerful machine for the price. Super fast at milling wood and capable of machining aluminum parts. AltMill 48×48 | Sienci Labs

I’ve got an OneFinity as well. Different use case than the MR1. But your point is made. They are a one product family company - wood CNC (yes aluminum & brass is doable, but not serious metal machining.

Langmuir is more like Grizzly. Lots of different tangentially related stuff. OneFinity focuses their R&D on partnerships (all of the new stuff has a 3rd party involved) to enhance CNC routing. Langmuir is going broad vs deep with their R&D oriented to new machines for your shop. Higher returns when you can sell additional 5 or 10K machines than selling 1K add-ons.

I have the Maslow 4 and some of the upgrades the 4.1 release is including (& signed up for the rest). It’s a different beast than most CNC routers. It’s really good for sheet goods but not as well oriented to smaller material sizes. I do much more with non-plywood/sheet goods so the Maslow doesn’t get dedicated shop space. The OneFinity is my CNC routing workhorse.

I’m surprised at this as well considering the partnership with ShopSabre. I guess the price point is too low to incorporate ShopSabre’s tool changer into the MR1 line.

I am not trying to bash the MR-1, definitely like mentioned before its use case is totally different. I just thought it was an interesting observation, I read the long thread about slow updates to CC, and no mention of 4 or 5 axis machining or any other improvements from Longmuir. It might not be a fair comparison, like James said above, different product spread.

Cheers,

Mike

I am not criticizing the MR1 nor directly comparing the two CNC systems, my point is has Langmuir been aggressively providing new products and capabilities to move this product forward. Yes, I know they are totally different but both companies are the same as they provide a CNC solution to a user group, so its interesting to compare.
