I am potentially acquiring a CNC machine in the very near future.
I have been trying YouTube university to get schooled up on CAM and it seems like I keep hitting professors that just plow through the basics as if the students have already taken 101, and are moving along at level 3.
I am also not a book learner. Hands on.
The ones doing 101 are over focused on everything leading up to starting the CAM process.
One key feature that I need to be cognicent of is that the control system is running on a 3.5” floppy - 1.4mb file limit for 3d CAM. Win 95…yay.
I have one model that I am trying to cut my teeth on, and I keep getting hung on the finishing passes.
Your best bet is to just mess around with it or post specific things for people to answer. Im also a hands on learner only. I cannot read a book and comprehend things and get limited input from videos. I have to see how things work and adjust them or make mistakes in the simulation. Im not in front of my computer right now but what issues are you having with finishing passes? There is an option for finishing in the setup tabs for roughing, stock to leave and finishing passes.
It’s just trying to get it to complete. Keep getting collision warnings on Rapid, when it’s supposed to be raising up enough to clear the top of the work.
Also not sure that the final finishing pass is actually leaving the smooth contour. Fusion keeps freezing up on that last contour.
So when you simulate its throwing a collision code or it’s showing collision in red on the workpiece? is your tool length correct and is your retract high enough? Can you screen shot and post those?
your 3/8 ball mill op is where i am seeing a ton of collision between your part and the holder. if that is your actual holder for that tool, you need more tool stickout.
Thanks for taking a look. I have increased the stick out, now I just can’t find a method to do the finishing pass on the curved areas. It either turns into a spooky large process (north of 3 mb), or misses sections of the roughing.
I am using Fusion library tools - I have not sent up any yet as I have not committed to the purchase yet. I go to take another look at the mill today for function and backlash test.
I was hoping to create a file to use as a test drive.
@Sticks do you even have the right post processor for that machine? Also, I can’t imagine a world where I had to use a floppy disk to transfer each toolpath to the machine one by one. I get annoyed enough having to open a dozen toolpaths one at a time in CutControl and those are on local to the machine lol.
