Why are there washers on the base plate hanger cap screws? Did they bottom out?
@JDE Yes thatās a spec error and they did bottom out. They are changing that in the instructions on which screws to temporarily use. Stack of washers and we are back in business.
Great job. Looking close to perfect. I was worried about all the splash residue left behind. I feel better now after seeing yours
Again, thank you for documenting this for us.
Wow, youāve done an incredible job with the concreteā¦ Iām checking this forum wayyyyy tooo frequently right nowā¦ Anticipation is killing me.
@MrmachineTX Excellent job on the concrete pour! This looks great and your machine should be making chips real soon.
My one comment is that your concrete level is lower than what we specify in the assembly manual. The assembly manual states that the baseplate should stick out of the concrete by 3/8" to 1/4", and should lie below the corner drains by 1/8" if you are using the epoxy top fill kit. If not using the epoxy kit, the concrete should be troweled flush to the corner drain surface. We are likely going to tag a reference guide to the chip tray so that folks have access to all the key numbers during the concrete pour stage.
The good news is that your concrete level will not affect performance of the machine at all! What it means is that the 1 gallon epoxy top fill kit will likely not be enough to flood to the top level of your corner drains. Iād recommend snagging another epoxy kit and flooding 2 gallons in order to get the level flush to the corner drains for proper coolant draining.
@langmuir-mike The concrete level is a result of too much water. As it seeped out, the concrete settled and the level was then too low. lesson learned. Another gallon of epoxy will float this out just right. Maybe Iāll start to follow the directions nowā¦
You did a really good job finishing the surface of the concrete- looks excellent.
Just a heads up that anyone that has gotten a shipping notification for their machine will also be getting a USPS delivery of the required 1/4-20 x 3/8 cap screws needed to secure the baseplate positioners. All future shipments starting today contain the correct fasteners in the hardware box.
Can I just say @langmuirsystems āyou Langmuir guys do a great job!ā
I have done a fair amount of projects with bagged Concrete and its human nature to always want to make the mix wetter than it should be when mixing.
Couple of tips:
When adding water a tiny amount makes a much bigger difference then you think.
When you have it to the point you think it is all mixed, mix it some more.
The mix will seem wetter once poured in the form.
If you are unsure or never have done it before do a 1 bag test pour to get a feel for it.(stuff is cheap)
@Knick where was this comment when i was in the thick of it haha! good thing is that even when you stray from the instructions itās still not ruined!
Iām glad I have a cement mixer. I can definitely see how youād need two people for hand mixing!
I was hoping not to need to make the 325 mile round trip to my ranch to get my cement mixer, but I think I just might have to - lol.
I wouldnāt be afraid to mix this by hand with two people, as long as your set up and ready to go. You can mix 2 - 80lbs bags in a wheelbarrow. depending on temp you probably have a 60- 90 min window to make the pour. Remember your forms wont absorb any water (like when pouring on the ground) so that will help slow things down.
I like mixing 3bags at a time in my mixer betterš
what if you had to drive 325 miles to get it?
Iād do it! Another option is rent one for a few hours. Or buy one off marketplace and sell it for more when I was doneš. Done that a few times with equipment already.
last time I rented a electric one I think I could have mixed it by hand quicker. I guess I am used to hand mixing small amounts.
I just followed you on the gram the other day. And here you are haha. Canāt wait to see progress!
Hoping you get your machine today bigpappi
ABF has lost it. Got to Atlanta Sunday and was supposed to be in Chattanooga yesterday, but they canāt find itā¦ 1000 lbs skid and they canāt find itā¦ Iām fit to be tiedā¦
Update: Its been found this morning at Chattanooga Terminalā¦ Told them Iām coming to get itā¦
Leaving now before I loose my mind.
