I just bought a PC to use in the garage. My only intention is to use FireControl. When I start the program the opening screen comes up then immediately shuts down then I get a warning box? that states something about, ( child exited with code 1 ) I do not have it in the garage nor do I have it hooked up to my Crossfire Pro. Do I need to hook it up for it to work?
Fire control will not work unless hooked to the machine.
I missed this part…
It must be hooked to the table to work…
FireControl will only function when it is connection to a CrossFire Motion Control Board. This is a safety precaution - we want it to be absolutely clear when you do or do not have control of the machine. As you do not have control of the machine when it is not plugged in, FireControl functionality reflects this by remaining locked.
Hope this helps!
EDIT: Just realized you were saying this in response to the post, I thought you were reporting a separate issue. Apologies for any confusion!
Hey Carl,
Check out this thread regarding the same Child Processes error that you’re getting:
In short, a “child process error” occurs when a subprocess created by a program (the “parent process”) runs into a problem that prevents it from completing its task. We’ve become aware of a rare issue with a recent Windows update that can cause this error when trying to run FireControl; it seems the update affected how the computer handles power efficiency, as it seems to have affected specifically power-efficient CPU models. It’s worth noting that this issue is related to the Windows operating system, not a problem with the FireControl software itself.
I recommend trying a fresh FireControl installation:
- Uninstall FireControl from your computer via the Control Panel.
- Delete the “.FireControl” folder, which is typically located at the file path: C:/Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/.FireControl
- Restart your computer.
- Reinstall FireControl.
- If the issue persists, try again, this time installing the “compatibility” version of FireControl.
@toolboy and @Upstategrowguy77 are exactly right, FireControl functionality is locked unless connected to a CrossFire Motion Control Board via USB. That said, the program should remain open but “dormant”, this wouldn’t cause it to crash with the Child Process error.
Thanks. I fixed it by accident/chance, not ten minutes after I posted my inquiry.
I did uninstall and chose the same version but the compatibility file below the first link. It’s now working properly as far as X-Y-Z movement goes. I did not burn anything since I hooked up the new PC. Thank you for responding, I always appreciate the help! I am not exactly computer savvy, so I’ll most likely be returning here as I plan to start cutting much more this year. I’ve only made tabs for a local stock car fabricator, but I plan on moving to more creative stuff. Thanks again.
there goes my ego again…look out here I come!!!
