FireControl 24.1.6 Open Beta Testing

Download

Hi Langmuir Systems Forum Members:

We are excited to announce an open beta for a new version of FireControl to the LS Community! This new FireControl version 24.1.6 will include some new features as well as some bug fixes and general improvements to the FireControl you have become accustomed to. The open beta download will be included above. This thread will include what new features are included as well as some information on how to use these new features in FireControl! Also, any feedback or bug reports on the new update below would be much appreciated!

What’s NEW in 24.1.6 Beta

  • Increased Compatibility - FireControl 24.1.6 Beta includes fixes for low power CPU’s which was causing Child Process errors.

  • Manual Program Overrides - Change your programs from within FireControl so that you can iterate your programs more quickly. Change the Cut Height, Pierce Delay, and Cut speed of your programs on the fly.

    Manual program overrides

When the override program button is selected FireControl will create a copy of your current program with the new overridden Cut Settings.

    Save Program

You can select the button circled in blue above to save the Overridden Settings as a new Cut File.

  • Dry Runs with Z axis - Allows FireControl to keep the IHS activated during dry runs so that you get a more realistic idea of what your cut paths will look like.

In order to enable the Dry run with Z Axis enabled you will need to select the Z Button as shown:

    Z-Dry run disabled
    Z-Dry run enabled

This will allow you to now turn on the Dry Run and include the Z/IHS Sequences in your Dry Run. Due to limitations in the software you will be unable to toggle the Z Axis feature when the Dry run is enabled. You will need to disable the Dry run feature whenever you want to toggle the Z Axis Feature.

Again, it would be much appreciated if any bugs or feedback were reported in this thread!

Thank you,
Zach H - Tech Support

Any other feature to be added, or just human test trials with what you have?

Thank you all by the way for these improvements.

Does this version have an emulator so we can run the program without the table?

I loaded it and will test it tomorrow. The fact that the energy saving CPU issues with the dreaded "Child process " has been cured is greatly appreciated.

Some nice quality of life improvements.

How does the readjustment of the feed rate work if you have feed optimization applied in your program. Is it smart enough to reduce all the dissimilar feed rates in a program by a percentage?

I’ll get it loaded up on the XR and see what’s up.

Another huge quality of life improvement for me would be * diagonal * movement buttons.

I cut a couple of parts this morning, and it worked perfectly. The manual parameter override is fantastic. What a great addition. When testing it, it also worked perfectly.

Man! Diagonal movements would be AMAZING! Can we fast track putting that into the software? I’ll send beer if needbe!

Has there been any feedback on the Beta testing of this version of FireControl?

I have not tried it.

It has worked perfectly for me. So far.

Have you needed to over-ride you settings of a file on the fly?

No, But in the 5 years I have had this table, I can count on one hand the number of times I have changed setpoints besides increasing the pierce times.

All the advancements with technology and you are using your hand for counting!!!

Yep, With that being said, once you know what works with whatever metal you’re cutting, you can get it right the first time. :yum: I don’t really have all the issues some of these guys have.

I agree, Once you get your tool library dialed in and your consumable maintenance sorted, its plain sailing from there.

Regarding the new software, so far I have cut 5 sheets of 8x4 with multiple nested parts with no problems. But also, like BigDaddy, I’ve had no need to adjust settings on the fly so cant comment on the status of that feature.

I wanted to try it but it won’t work on my old laptop, I had to go back to the compatibility mode. As a beginner I can see where some of those features would be nice.

I can also understand that once you have things dialed in they would be less likely to be used.

What are the odds of getting a firecontrol override of the rapid clearance height? Ive been burning a lot of big flat parts lately and would love a quick way to change the rapid clearance without having to edit the post processor. I could be running a .25" clearance no problem right now and save a bunch of time on my cuts by speeding up the IHS.

What’s “rapid clearance height”

the height the torch is placed in when traveling from one cut point to the another. I think it’s something like 1 or 2 inches above the material to avoid hitting a tip up.

Yep, its at 1 inch. You can change this in CAM but it has no effect since its baked into the post processor. Seems like a really goofy way to do it.
