Drilled 90 holes in under 4 minutes with my MR-1. This was the part where I noticed the Z axis backlash. I’m working on buying a new lead screw assembly at the moment. Overall the holes still turned out ok. I did mess up and loaded my part incorrectly and almost broke my drill bit. The stock should have been rotated 90 degrees. I just needed a part with lots of holes to test out my new electric tapping arm.

Just a follow up. Turns out the Z axis screw was ok. I changed it out only to find out it had lost a little bit of it’s preload but the backlash was coming from the angular contact bearings. I had just recently dialed those in and assumed they were still dialed in. Turns out they were shot.
Are you referring to the angular contact bearings in the spindle?
No I was referring to the ones the hold the Z axis lead screw but now that you mention it I should test the ones in the spindle. When I put it back together I was pushing on the z axis not the spindle…
