Haven’t posted much, just getting into this. I’ve copied the basic design mods that Dan did a few years back. I wanted to run the torch lead through the drag chain though. It’s my work in progress, I’ll add more pics later.
So I’m a bit slow at this due to work “obligations” or whatever. I never seem to have enough time to do what I want. Anyway, I plan to do the kitchen sink mod so it will drain the pan completely rather than leaving 1/4" of water in the pan. That said, I finally got the time to do a bit of test and tune to run the plasma cutter. I’ll eventually weld in a set of sink drains, but my first step is to figure out how to just do a basic circle cut. Took me a bit, I guess I’m computer challenged in my later years. 2" holes to start with, I need to do 3.75" for the drains to the tank. Figuring out the lead-in/lead-out was my biggest hurdle. It’s close enough to work with for now, but I’d like to make it cleaner for production cuts. Still doing dry cuts with no water, the first real cut I want to do is the pan itself. Getting closer anyway. Good thing I’m not in a hurry to get it all sorted out.
Keep at it. Looking good.
You will want to put water or something as a buffer in that pan to protect it. Dry cutting will allow the torch heat to scorch, or damage the pan if you have the amps up on your cutter.
Even 35a on mine did scorch the pan the one time I did it dry.
Great job on the chains. I recommend putting water in that pan, or you’ll be starting a new thread real soon on the leaking pan.
There is a sacrificial piece of 1/8" aluminum sheet laying in the pan under the test cut steel, it’s about 16x16 and is catching the spray/slag from the actual cuts I made. I had figured the plasma cutter would possibly burn through or at least scorch the pan below since it’s only 20 gauge stainless.
One of the brass drain plugs was missing out of my package but I had planned on doing the larger drains anyway. After looking at the date I posted the original stuff I was a little depressed at my lack of progress. 3 months and I haven’t really cut much.
