I bought the crossfire pro a few years ago when it first came out. I also bought the Razorcut 45 with the hand torch a the time. Here’s my original setup:
At this point I’ve made thousands of cuts with this original setup. The hand torch was always a nuisance I was willing to live with but I finally committed to buying a machine torch.
Since I made the commitment to buy one anyway, I figured I had nothing to lose by attempting to modify the hand torch I already had, and see if I could convert it into a machine torch head.
I took apart the plastic handle and gently removed the trigger, nozzle, wires and other components. Then I reassembled the plastic handle empty and cut along the right angle of the torch with an angle grinder:
Once I cut the head off, I rotated it 180 degrees and rejoined the pieces using a plastic stapler repair kit:
I also removed the copper air line from the nozzle and rotated it 180 degrees so it was inline rather than at right angles. I ended up breaking off the copper line at the nozzle so I had to drill out the old copper in the nozzle and reseat and solder the copper tubing back into the nozzle.
Finally I had had to trim some of the plastic off around the knuckle to get the air line to fit back in.
I gently put all the internals back in place and reassembled both halves of the handle.
Now I have my own machine torch head and I didn’t spend a penny
. It works great!
