Just out of idle, dumb, stupid curiosity, has anybody turned off your THC and tried cutting with a drag tip sliding across the plate?
Surely you too must have thought about it.
Drag consumables are not meant for mechanized cutting.
But yes, lots of people have and do cut without THC (whether disabled or simply because they chose not to purchase it).
This is because both the Crossfire and Crossfire Pro do not come with THC as standard equipment, only the XR does.
Quite often on thicker plate I will turn off THC. IHS still works though.
You could use a DRAG tip and drag it on the metal as long as it is kept at 40 amps or under. It would be hard on the motors, feed screws and feed nuts. The metal would have to be extra clean and flat.
I was kinda thinking the spring mounting of the torch assy may accommodate any warpage, but your right, the plate would have to be kept clear of slag/spatter for sure, more to babysit.
I never thought about the plastic feed nuts.
Thanks for all the responses guys.
Sounds like the same kind of setup they would use for a pen marker but with a stronger spring.
