Cutting brass with Crossfire Pro

Does anyone have any recent experience cutting brass sheet? I need to cut some letters and numbers out of some 16 gauge brass sheet on my Crossfire Pro with a Hypertherm Powermax 45. Looking for settings to start with. Thanks.

I just priced some brass sheet for a job all I can say is its pricey. I can see why your asking you cant afford to waste that stuff.
Curious what you find out please keep us posted or how you end up cutting it

I would also love to hear how this turns out. I have thought about it but never tried it. The word on the street is that it creates zinc gas, which is very dangerous.

@BoboBumster I’ve never personally cut brass with plasma, but the general consensus I am seeing across the internet is that you’ll use similar settings to aluminum, but a significantly lower feedrate. You should always make sure to have ample airflow when plasma cutting, but like @Bigdaddy2166 said, I would take extra caution when working with brass.

I will definitely post some photos of my results and settings data. I am going to try cutting both brass and bronze sheet. Lately I have tried cutting 16 gauge stainless using Hypertherm fine cut consumables using Their Duramax Machine Torch settings for both fast and slow cutting and have had excellent results. I took TinWisperer’s advice and filled the water table to almost overflowing, which minimized the amount of smoke and vapors to almost nothing. I will do the same when cutting brass to mitigate production of harmful gases. Fortunately, my shop is large with plenty of airflow and volume, will be wearing a respirator as well.
