Cut will pierce but then not cut for about an inch before cutting through

Take the one off your welder and use it.

FIx it. Not rocket science.

I would definitely check it.

It’s why I mentioned it in the first reply to this topic because it’s happened before to people on the forum.

If you know how to use a multimeter just see what the ohms resistance is on that lead. It should be damn near zero.

Yep you are right, the thing is it was one of those situations that a multi-meter showed as OK. It was by physically examining the cable that the fault became apparent and manifested itself. At first glance it was not apparent by measuring the continuity results which initially indicated very low losses.

How do you recommend fixing

Hi; If you have the time you can peel it open, if it the issue else do a search on Amazon for this kind of cable. 10 ft 6 AWG Welding Ground Cable DINSE 25 w/ 500A Clamp fit MIG Welder TIG Welder Plasma Cutter. I am sure there are some on the forum who know better options as I am not US based.

Slide the rubber boot back off the dinse (twist lock that goes into the plasma cutter) and inspect. If the cable has pulled out, there will be a setscrew that you can loosen, put the cable back in the back of the bayonet and tighten it down. Slide the boot back up and bada bing, your done/

I have another question a little off topic from where we are. Is there a way to manually fire the air on the razor weld? I have the machine torch so I cant just pull the trigger but I would like to adjust the regulator while not actually cutting if possible.

Maybe a megger would be better to use?

I wonder if while you were cutting if you used a thermal camera if that area where the cable was loose would heat up?

Yes there is a way, but you have a air check button on your plasma cutter that does the same thing with out firing the torch.

Hey Wbittmann, how are you progressing, any luck with your problem on the cut start?

Thanks for checking:) nothing really. I havent made a cut since i last posted. I did take the cover off my cutter and adjust the regulator so I was actually get 75-80 psi. It was set way too low so hopefully that helps. I am going to check out my 10-25 cable and connections before I cut next. Have been experiencing leaks recently with the water table so I have that apart too to try and reseal better.

Yeah the water table is a weak point I ended up TIG welding the 2 pieces together. Good luck, but it was the dodgy earth that was doing me in and your cuts looked exactly the same.

My next step for sure is that! If I had the equipment and skill or someone accessible to weld it I definitely would but not really feasible for me right now. Only way to go in my opinion but oh well
