so this is not a one size fits all V-block style clamp that puts four highly concentrated points of force on the torch. These are round clamps within .000" to .015" of the torch OD so they greatly reduce the deformation when clamping so that you don’t damage our torch. This allows you to clamp low and allow the Lasers to not cast a shadow.
No need to crush the torch. I tell people to gently tighten the lower clamp first just until the torch doesn’t freely rotate. Then clamp the top clamp.

Here is my 3d printed pointer for the Hypertherm torch. It should fit any torch that uses Hypertherm consumables. It is designed to screw on in place of the shield, so the nozzle and electrode stay in place. I made it Orange to help prevent me from hitting start with it still on the torch. I’ll put it on Thingiverse and probably Makerspace.

Edit: I just got to thinking, since you are not indexing anything and only looking for a quick test of repeatability you could tape a tooth pick on the side of your torch and just use the toothpick for this simple testing.
