Has anyone converted the stock coolant set up with a mister that utilizes same coolant reservoir/pump?
I installed the SST kit. The nice thing is that the kit is very complete. The only downside is the mist that fills your shop… Here is a video of the install https://youtu.be/wH0bwdNbfpE
I made my own and don’t have any problem with mist filling the shop. I’ve never setup flood coolant on my MR-1, it’s not really suitable for how I use the machine.
I have independent pressure regulators for coolant pressure and air pressure, as well as needle valves for each. It’s also important to inject the coolant drops into the middle of the air stream (many coolant nozzles do this the other way around, which makes fog). There are a lot of videos on making Fogbuster clones.
I thought that the SST Lube Cube design would be decent, but I haven’t seen one in person and maybe it’s not.
min doesn’t fill up the shop super fast but after about 3 hours of running there is a mild haze.
How much coolant are you supplying? When properly adjusted it should just barely dampen a piece of paper.
I have a lid on the top of my cabinet which might be why I’m not experiencing this.
I just installed the SST mister on mine as well, and I love it. I run a very light mist on mine and I haven’t had any issues. My only complaint is that the magnetic base could be stronger. I have had it come off a few times when doing tight repetitive cuts.
I’ve been wanting to add a lid for a while just haven’t gotten to it. I’m running around 5 to 10 psi with very little mist. takes a couple minutes to create a puddle on the part. After 3 hours of running I can see it in the air when you look up at the lights.
I had the same thing happen with my magnet base. Found a screw or two creating a boundary/perimeter around it did the trick.
My SST mister has been great! Adjusted real low, as others suggested, ran for 3 hours straight with not so much as even a slight haze or fog. Could be good ventilation too, but I havent noticed any fog.
I do agree that you want to hard mount (with screws) vs count on the magnets if you can. There are plenty of bolts on the side of the MR-1 spindle that you can use for this purpose. Most of them (the small ones) are just there to secure the shroud to the spindle.
I’m glad the SST Lube Cube is working so well for all of you.
@Richarddbeck83 " takes a couple minutes to create a puddle on the part." – If I see a puddle forming I assume I have the coolant mix set too rich and dial it back. 90% of the work being done is blowing chips out of the way, the rest is keeping the cutter edge just lightly lubricated (which doesn’t take much).
I backed it off and it’s working much better thanks! I was running it so I could see a little bit of a mist stream. …way too much.
