Choosing a new compressor

That is sweet… every time you post I get another case of envy…

I have a question that is a bit off topic… does your shop double as a chemistry lab?

Well you never know when you might need the atomic weight of Plutonium!

I am looking forward to seeing your postings of engravings with this. Are you using Lightburn?

I used to have an ATFE Type 20 license so it was all above board. Haven’t really done anything for the last 10 years though. I hope to find the time to get back into it down the road. It’s just an odd coincidence that the stars are aligning for some substantial additions to the shop, I’m just hoping I can keep up with everything. One more big addition coming with the 3D printer but I’m trying to put that off until I’m comfortable with LightBurn because I’m sure I’m going to have to learn yet more software for the 3D printing.

I bought a LightBurn Galvo laser license a few days ago, now I just need to learn how to use it. I burned a few test texts on a piece of stainless real quick just to make sure everything worked, so far so good.

Finally got the laser calibrated and all the adjustments and files done for LightBurn. Here is a short clip of an aluminum business card I engraved today.

Got an email from Home Depot today that my compressor delivery was delayed, I mean I ordered it 2 weeks ago, if it came yesterday I would still consider it delayed…

Home Depot delivery is a pain to deal with… and if they make a mistake( or get lost) you have to go back to the end of the line. I spent an hour on the phone with them while waiting for a plane at DTW …working up the ladder trying to resolve a simple issue. Thought I had the driver convinced but then his super called him and told him no go… got the item almost two weeks later because the driver was lost. I try to avoid them at any cost now.

I’m not even having it delivered to my house, I’m having it delivered to a local Home Depot and picking it up there but yeah trying to communicate with their logistics is virtually impossible.

This problem is definitely nation wide. Last summer a good friend had a hay machine that the gear box went down on. He ordered a 1600 dollar replacement from the dealership 2 weeks out.
I ended up repairing his for around 100 bucks… took him 6 months to get it.

Yes, they are two different companies (Home Depot and the delivery service) that don’t seem to communicate at all… In my case the warehouse is only an hour away from my house and I had to wait almost a month to get it. My wife was ready to string me up… we were waiting on a replacement microwave… the microwave we were replacing was only 2 years old… but that’s another thing. I ended up having to just buy a countertop unit to get us by till the replacement came. Hindsight I should have just fixed the old one… but it was going to be faster and not that much more expensive to just replace it… both turned out wrong. It didn’t help that I was working out of town while this was all happening…

Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way, and “don’t order things from Home Depot” is apparently one of those lessons…Love the store, would never order something from them again. It’s not all bad news though, I actually still need to run the higher amperage circuit.

It has arrived…A monumental PITA to get off the trailer and into the garage, the pallet was too wide for the engine hoist…3+ hours to get from trailer to shop. That being said it is off the pallet now so the engine hoist is back in the game. It was too tall with the pallet to get through the garage door, neighbor luckily was able to fork it off the pallet with his tractor which got it just under the height of the door so now we are ready to get the old compressor out and the new one installed. This thing is a monster. I’ll post pics shortly.

That ridiculous pump and motor make an 80 gallon tank look small.

I don’t know but it looks to me that you may have purchased a Minion. Or at least a close cousin!

You’ll have to talk nice to it or you will hurt its feelings :stuck_out_tongue:

Here you go Tin, as promised. I’ll get measurements later but this is the layout.

Thank you for the pictures.

Is each layer just has four obrounds cut in the corners of the sheet metal?

Is that where the air flows coming from?

Is the hole pattern the same on every plate from the top to bottom?

So you have the obrounds cut in the corners but only on one side and it changes sides on each level and that is where the pathway the air follows. There are also 3 holes in the bottom layer of the bottom shelf that I think also lets air in along with the obrounds. The hole pattern is the same from top to bottom just rotated 180 degrees on each level.
