I have the splash model in 7.5 HP under polar air name and have no complaints.
I went to a home show a few years ago and was looking at appliances and ask the guy what the warranty was on the 2.5k refrigerator they had displayed and he told me some ridiculous amount of time. When I said wow that’s not very long, he said well it is if you consider the average life expectancy of appliances is 7 years.
I wound up buying the pressurized 10HP compressor from these guys, their pumps run at low RPM’s so I think it should be good. They have an excellent warranty as long as you keep up on the regular maintenance.
That’s exactly what I expect it to look like, I think there is a pleated paper filter on each of the intake nipples. I’ll let you know!
yeah looks like they relocated standard air filters to the top of the box.
Then they use fiberglass filter media to fill the baffles of the box.
Thanks I look forward to replicate that silencer for myself my triple head compressor is loud.
I think the fiber filter media is more for sound suppression and dissipation than actual filtering.
He’s right. It’s often quoted as 5-7 years which is bonkers when you think of how much they cost now and how long they used to last when we were growing up. Our basement fridge is now over 40 years old and going strong. The upstairs fridges have been replaced on an average of every 10 years or so.
Ranges have been worse - I don’t think we got 10 years out of any of the ones we’ve bought.
And we’re not buying cheap no-name appliances.
I’m appalled by how much the ones we bought for the new house cost us.
I would be will to pay more if they would build them to last longer. Wonder what it would cost them to build one to last like they did 30-40 years ago?
I don’t think energy efficiency regulations permit them to be built like they used to.
Well I think there are issues with things that don’t effect efficiency. I have heard the copper in A/c coils are getting thinner and thinner. @TinWhisperer do you find that to be true?
In the HVAC industry almost all coil are switching over to aluminum and I believe in a lot of the appliances also.
The reason why appliances don’t last as long as they used to is that it is by design.
Designed obsolescence is built into everything. Companies hire engineers explicitly to make stuff last only a certain amount of time.
They only want these products to last sightly longer then the length of the warranty period.
I have to wonder if the ever shortening lifespan of compressors has anything to do with the ever changing refrigerants they are compressing…
Definitely part on the issue. Most newer greener refrigerants are very hygroscopic so they like to absorb water and also run higher pressures for the condenser.
We switched r12 to r132a in refrigerators about 30 years ago and started switching r22 to r410a in residential AC about 20 years ago.
Besides the chlorine r12 and r22 were great refrigerants.
The next refrigerant for everything is going to be straight C02(r744) which will have 10 times the operating pressure.
The good news is that you’ll certainly know when the fittings are leaking!
I’ve always wondered what carbonated air tastes like…
This is a bit off topic but I ordered a 60w fiber laser engraver today. It’s due to arrive about the same time as the compressor. Anyhow I’m hoping I can use it to do some engraving on the signs I cut with the Pro and maybe do some photo transfer onto steel. The unit I got can do colors on stainless and will mark/etch/engrave on pretty much any metal surface. I’m also going to use it to put the Galts Garage logo on all of my tools (wrenches, sockets etc.). Anyhow, it’s clear to me now that I have an impulse buying problem.
Its very common to have that problem. I was looking at a 70ton 8’ long press brake that weighed 8,000 pounds for jobs I might do twice a year. its a sickness that’s for sure.
