I really need to be able to easily move my table around - any recommendations on what to look for in castors?
These are what I use for my Crossfire Pro. They can be had cheaper than McMaster Carr.
They work well to.move the table around. You would have to fab up something to mount them securely. I fabricated T6 leg inserts with 1/2-13 threads.
Casters, 1/2"-13 Thread, 1.38" Long Stem, 2" Diameter Wheel, 610 lbs. Capacity
Hopefully we are talking about a plasma table. I don’t recommend casters for the MR1.
I put 1/4 inch thick plates with holes cut for mounting the wheels. I don’t trust the single stud mount of casters for the weight. I set the table/legs on top of each plate and welded without the wheels attached. That way the plate will be oriented in the correct alignment.
I would suggest making a frame to place the casters on, and placing the table in said frame.
I can see the table coming out of square when pushing it around and setting it up for cutting especially since floors aren’t perfectly flat/level.
I’ll second the idea of a dolly to set the table on. I’ve moved mine around several times and no issue with getting out of square.
I used caster similar to what Jim posted above.
Here is my table when brand spanking new… so clean I miss that gleem!
I may be late to this topic…but I will always say it…do not put wheels on the legs of the Pro tables…do not do it…
It is not a matter of IF they legs will put the frame out of square but WHEN it will happen.
It happened to me…
so take a 4’ level and place it on the concrete floor…not put a finishing nail 6" from one end under the level…now push down on the 6" end and watch what happens to the other end…it goes way up…
These are the same forces that are placed on the gantry system with wheels on the legs…moving the table around alot will force stresses on the gantry and force it out of square…
Langmuir has even suggested not to put wheels on the legs just for this reason…
Build a nice rolling base and put the table on it…
I had not considered a mobile tool base, this would be a much better solution as it also adds a shelf to store things.
Great idea, I like that set-up. I just put mine together and hopefully tomorrow I’ll be making my virgin run. But I wanted to get the cutter off the floor. So I’ve been scratching my head how to get all the components organized.
What kind of tank is that you have? I’m assuming for draining the pans?
Thanks
