Baseplate surfacing Issue- G-code motion target exceeds machine travel

Hello.

I’m new here and I’m looking for some help with my MR-1. As finally ready to start it up after assembly and trying to do the baseplate surfacing but i run into Issue - G-code motion target exceeds machine travel. Once i hit clear and home the machine and start over it’s happening again.

I’m using .375 baseplate surfacing

Morning @Madwolf. Usually when that error comes up it’s from the soft limits being over protective or that the X and Y zero points aren’t set exactly at home.

Let’s check the soft limits first since the baseplate program moves right up to the limits. You can turn off soft limits by tapping on the grey box with three lines at the top right of CutControl, then change Soft Limits to Disabled. Last hit save at the bottom of the menu.

After that, press the red home button and let the MR-1 finish the homing procedure. Then on the right side of the screen, press the red Zero buttons on X and Y to zero them out.

Finally double check that your Z zero is set according to the assembly video and you should be all set to face the baseplate MR-1 Assembly Guide | Langmuir Systems. After facing you can turn on soft limits again if you’d like.

For soft limit adjustments follow Jake’s instructions above. If you want a base plate surfacing program with smaller stepover (to make up for tramming issues you might have) here is one for free. Langmuir Systems MR-1 Base Plate Surfacing Program - Beck Tools

Since you’re new set your Z zero above the plate 1” and start the program. once it’s running stop the program and do a sanity check on the height with a 1,2,3 block. you can always run the surfacing program again. Better to take off a tiny bit multiple times that to over do it on the base plate.

I used the small base plate surface program but put in a larger end mill. Helps get a little more on the edges. My plate was off by almost 1/4”… top left to bottom right…

o man, 1/4” is a bit heavy. You might need some shorter vise hold down bolts for the clamps.

I have 2 SMW plates so I did lose some height overall…

Thank you for your help.

Finally, it has worked after the soft limits are off. Now, do I need to redo the soft limits or just use them as it now??
