Baseplate MOD: 1/2" Thread for SMW MOD-Vise

I really would like to use the SMW Vise but dont want to sacrifice the extra Z height.

Anyone think of, done already or have an opinion on selecting some space between the stock holes and setting up a 2threaded holes by 10threaded holes matrix of 1/2" threads in the base to mount the ModVise?

I figured something like having two holes in the back for the stationary piece and then a handful of rows of 2 moving down towards the front for different positions for the movable side. There is definitely space but my worries are tapping down to the concrete or possible messing it up and having a forever eyesore.

Thoughts?

Just make risers to lift the gantry where it attaches to the Y-axis carriages…

1 inch to 3 inches should not greatly effect the rigidity.

Probably have to play with alignment and make a block that works similar to a bolt on wheel spacer.

Bolt assembly to carriage then have matching bolt pattern about 1/2 inch shifted and threaded so you can then tighten ot down like the stock carriage. Can then re-square the assembly from there and adjust shims under spacers even.

I thought of this as well, and modeled up one way to do it a few weeks ago. This way should avoid interference with the existing hole pattern as much as possible.

Let me know if you want the STEP. It might not be 100% accurate to the original as far as the original hole positions since I don’t have a machine in hand yet, but I think it’s fairly close.

if you screw up you just thread an aluminum plug into the hole and machine flat, can always go bigger.

I’d totally take the step for the baseplate. It looks pretty accurate but I’ll make sure. Thanks a ton! I was hoping to find time to do it myself but haven’t yet so that should save me a bunch of time.

Thanks! Pm me or lmk if you need a email.

Haven’t even thought of this yet but it’s genius! Definitely going to do this later on once I’ve got some use out of the machine and am more comfortable with it!

Thanks a ton!
