Especially since Langmuir specifically says to make the plunge rate “at least 50 ipm” 
I know the OP says it makes things worse, but that just means there’s something else wrong as well.

Here is my Electrode and tip. I read online somewhere that the cause may be due to moisture. Do you guys think that might be the case here?
Moisture will kill them fast. What are you doing to dry your air?
How much cutting have you done with them?
