Im done, im so done with fusion. This update that just happened nuked all my cam work. I have probably 30 hours to unf…. What they just did with that update. Ive scheduled a solidworks demo but was wonder what yall use because fusion just lost me.
I had SolidWorks come out last year for a demo. $3000 for one seat. I’ll keep working with Autodesk for now. Now, if I ever got a mill with a fourth axis, I probably would do it. Autodesk 4th axis is about $1,900 plus $500 single seat. I didn’t lose anything that I can see at this point. Are you using the free version?
Wife has paid version. I piggy back if i need extra stuff. I pretty much lost all my cam ops. I had tons of errors and had to redo an entire project in cam that i had working gcode for 2 days ago. I tried freecad and mastercam but those have some interesting learning curves. Love fusions setup but i cant keep redoing work over and over. Last month they fucked up dovetail toolpaths because the tools had to have a certain profile after the update.
Im going to look into rhino3d in the morning if i can ever fall asleep. Im so pissed im restless.
Though that is true, there is still a lot that can be done in fusion with a 4 axis without that license. Look into wrapped tool paths or work positioning (flipping the part to another angle) for example.
Though the full license would be nice, some real work can get done on a 4th axis without it.
I saw your rant on reddit this morning too, made me smile that we are connected in a variety of ways…seriously.
Anyway, I am not gonna be a fusion apologist, their recent “upgrades” have had my scream at the computer more than once, but your situation seems quite odd and I have learned from many hours of computer time that fixing something in the middle of the night when feeling a deadline is not necessarily the best approach to decision making.
I have also read many “I want to switch from this CAD/CAM….” posts and IMO you will be trading this problem for that problem after you learn the new software - even at the more expensive software level. No tool is perfect, but at least this one you know.
Tomorrow is a new day…good luck
I updated fusion yesterday. I just reviewed some of my more complex CAM setups and everything looks Ok so far. I’m running the full version. Just my two cents….
Its a small world! Ya several people are saying they have no issues, 6 hours of sleep and im up for the day. Ill try to check it out before i head to work. I love fusion, its simple and the functions are easy to learn but GD if they dont love screwing stuff up with updates
Ya i ran it just now and everything looks ok.
Yes, you can use free Fusion with 4th axis as an indexer, which opens up a lot of options compared to 3-axis and can reduce setup count.
I’d love to have full 4-axis, but I haven’t really needed it yet. It would be necessary to make some advanced shapes (something like a cam shaft).
