Z axis torch holder slides loosely up and down about an inch

Hello, I have an e-mail in to customer support I sent last night but I was just wondering if someone could fill me in. I have everything wired up to my Everlast 82i raw voltage and have it through the THC correctly. I go to do the THC test no fire. I shut off thc and try to manually fire. No fire. I can hear the relay click whenever I press fire. I double checked plasma air pressure is happy, I’m in CNC mode etc. But the torch fire contacts are about an inch apart and I can just loosely lift the torch mount and then they can make contact. That’s where I got last night. The backside of the carriage is obviously nice and tight and tied in with the ballnut. t’s the front part of that carriage that holds the torch. Is it supposed to just freely slide up and down? I’m going to get back to looking at it whe I get out of work. I did a search on here and didn’t find anything addressing this so hopefully this isn’t a common question. Thank you all.

Those are the IHS contacts not the torch fire contacts.

Yes the z axis floats that is correct.

Your plasma not firing is either inside your plasma the cables or a bad relay. This is assuming the air is hooked to the plasma.

Yeah the air pressure is good. Plasma cutter is happy and did the air test button on it. It sits at 60psig. Thank you for the help.

I know some cutters are happy with low pressure like that but anything less than 70psi (when the torch is firing) seems to cause many people problems. I think @mechanic416 is a strong proponent of nothing less than 70 from his experience. Try bumping yours up and see if that fixes it.

Are you familiar with a volt meter? You can check continuity of the relay to eliminate it as well

I am familiar. I’ll pull the cover when i get home and make sure the relay is good. Good point. Its something dumb/easy it always is…

Going to manually jump the pins on the plasma as well to eliminate the power source as being a problem.

You an do it at the cable. Also check the cable. Short out you plasma as well to make sure it fires. You could have a issue there also.

Welcome to the forum.
At first I thought I was seeing double:

But close enough to figure out :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Does FireControl show the table and THC connected? Both areas should be lit green on the top right of the screen:

As @jamesdhatch has stated I recommend no less then 65psi and no more then 70psi with air flowing from the plasma cutter. I also recommend 90 to 120psi to the back of the plasma cutter with at least a 3/8" hose.

Also THC has nothing to do with the torch firing or not. That would have to do with air, wiring, etc.

Yeah the THC and Table autocommect.and are.green.

I will bump up the air pressure and give that a shot. Thank you all so much. When i get home i cant to start digging in.

*Can’t wait.

My main question was the free travel of the head as thats the only unknown i would have. Just got home jumped the plasma, worked. Checked wiring continuity from plasma soldered connection to wires going i to the box…aaaaaand i switched the torch on off and other 2 wires at some point. Fire has occured.
Thanks all.

Are you talking about the red torch mount, sliding up and down?

I was yes. But now that I have everything sorted I understand why that is.

Yeah, my screen name is usually Demigodofa but… looks like someone got there first

So you are confirming that you two are indeed, not the same person? You are not the same person as “Demigodofa” on this single topic?

Now I am really confused!

OK, so I just scrolled up and yeah… they are both me… weeeeeird
