Y axis jams in fast travel

Hey guys, has anyone ever had problems with this? Sometimes my Y axis will jam just on one side and it will throw the remainder of my Cut sequence off ruining the rest of the cut.

It seems to only happen in fast travel when moving to new position. It does not do it consistently. It always seems random but I think it happens mostly on one corner of the table.

I tried jogging the gantry back and forth at 400IPM to trigger it again and it won’t do it again.

I had problems before with the keeper plates on the drive backing off and then jamming against the travel rods but there is seemingly nothing restricting movement this time.

Any tips would be appreciatedbe! Thanks

I think you might have this topic in the wrong category. If you’re moving at 400 in per minute you must be running an XR not just a standard crossfire.

When you’re fast traveling manual. Or it’s traversing between cuts?

On my XR I set mine to 350 in per minute max speed. To me it doesn’t make sense to have your foot on the gas pedal so hard that you’re going the maximum speed always. It might cost me a few minutes a month or n travel time but I think it’s worth it.

Do you lube your rails?

Another thing I do with my XR periodically now is grab the ball screw with my hand and see if I can rotate it at all sometimes the Allen holding it firm starts loosening it up.

Yes it’s an XR, my bad

I do have movement in the ball screw. Thats suppose to be stiff?

Yes I lube the rails every few months

Is the button head cap screw M6x6x6 the set screw you are referring to?

There’s one on the very end of the ball screw. The ball screw should be absolutely stationary no movement at all.

Got a little bit more out of the set screw although seemed tight enough in my opinion. I lubed the rails again and turned my fast travel down to 250. It was at 400 before. Also noticed my wiper and the retainer plate had come off. It was tucked in the corner so didn’t see it at first. Fastened it back on with new hardware.

Ran my program a bunch more times and so far no Y axis Jamming!

Since the issue only occurs at higher travel speeds, make sure your ball screws are properly tensioned (I’ve included a link below).

Also check your V-rollers and confirm they can’t be turned by hand. After that, it’s a good idea to re-square the machine. To do this, gently drive the gantry into the opposite side of the limits at about 50 IPM for ~2 seconds, a couple times.

If the issue persists, feel free to call or email us and we can continue troubleshooting.
