Does anyone have any pointers as to how to replace the y-axis limit switches on an XR?
I cant believe they arent easily accesible, the pipe the gantry rolls on is right in the way…terrible placement…
Are you sure it’s a faulty limit switch?
Me…no…but johnny from langmuir systems says thats the issue after some troubleshooting and sent me the new limit switches. However there are no instructions to replace them. Im just gonna get longer versions of the tiny bolts and thread them through from the outside and use a nut on the inside…i dont know how else to accomplish the task wothout taking the whold damn thing apart. EXTREMELY POOR PLACEMENT LANGMUIR!!!
This is how I installed my y limit switch in the back corner of my XR were it’s blind on both sides.
Put the new limit switches in the draw. Go to FireControll and turn them off. Congratulations you can cut all-day without a problem.
What does “put them in the draw” mean…
Toolbox drawer. Sorry, good catch😁
I’m from New Jersey, and that’s how they say it.
Ah ok. Basically just unplugging them them
I was sidetracked. My wife turned on Google messages on my phone, and every time she messages me, I get a stupid bubble. I’m about to throw the phone across the street.
Just turn them off in FireControl. Just go to the hamburger-looking thing in the top right. Click on it and turn it off.
We need to investigate a non responding Y2 (always open now) limit switch and seeing it’s going to be a pain getting to retention screws, additionally our early machine (maybe 1st gen) has switches soldered to cable as opposed to later machines with connectors. My initial thoughts looking at cable track etc. clearance SB fine on Y2 side I am thinking move the switch to the outside of the side plate and modify target adj screw to be a larger disk to accommodate the displacement shift. As now we are running with limit switches disabled. Langmuir tech call said they will send us some new limit switches and cable today. Your results may vary but they also know we have their 25T press. Same breath so discussed with the Y tube rails still flaking last bits of paint and now rusting . I am so tempted to grab some SST tubing and ditch Y rails. Ken in NC~USA
Originally all the limit switches did not have a membrane stopping water ingress. The Titan limit switches look exactly the same but include the membrane and so do all the new limit switches for the other machines. They are awkward to replace after the fact this is how I did mine.
At the time I ended up having to replace the limit switch with one from my pro limit switch kit. Now I have a bag of the limit switches with the membrane so anytime I get a failure with the old switches never replace them out with the new version. I’ve never had a new version of the limit switch of the membrane fail.
I changed mine there not that bad. I would have to take look again but if you remove that brace that runs from the tube to the table they come off pretty easy. No need to turn them off.
they work fine
If someone pulls on one side of the gantry when the power is off you can square things back up by homing.
One thing that will help you is to take a deep breath and have some patience. I can think of lots of things that were much harder!
Maybe pulling the oil tank out of the T25 was a little harder but not that bad
one other thing you might want to check is the pulley on the motors of the Y AXIS mine came loose and everything pointed at limit switch but the actual problem was a loose pulley
I love the statement of “take a deep breath”. With a full 4x8 sheet of 1/4 fully patterned maybe a lot of breaths. Are we talking XR plasma or T25 press ? We have both machines. , We have a first off production XR machine Y2 issue and haven’t dug in too deep but suspect cable issue as its a single 4 conductor then splits into 3 cables X - Y1-Y2 and need to split the cable track to dig deeper into it. XR Plasma not 25T , We can run clean with limits disabled. A pain as we found when we have a 4x8 fully patterned 4x8 sheet and need to reset cut on the sheet and FC is locked up running with home switches disabled. We have a custom Delrin pointer that slips onto the HT syc cartridge and its able to get a visual on setting past paths, Not perfect but saved the sheet. . Reach out if anyone wants inputs on that. It was a simple part on the lathe, It could be 3d printed if no lathe potentially . When we get the new switches we will be moving them outside of the aluminum side plates.
Sorry I could not follow what you were saying or asking
New cheap switches will be outside the vertical side supports. So tempted to run 8m prox. switches on it, but just simple swap for now.
