Which Hypertherm Powermax 45XP?

New table owner here. I’ve decided on the HyperTherm Powermax 45XP, but I’m not sure which variant I should go with. I’d planned on following @ntkfabworks recommendation and purchasing the HyperTherm HYP088124 (w/CPC, 75 & 15 degree hand torches) for $2130 then converting the 15 degree torch to a “machine torch” using his tutorial. (Thank you SO MUCH for that write up by the way!)

Would there be any advantage to just buying the one that comes with the machine torch? HyperTherm HYP088121 (w/CPC, machine torch) for $2180 if I don’t plan on doing any hand cutting?

Just looking for some thoughts and opinions on which way I should go. Thank you in advance.

I got the same as NTK and converted the 15° torch, works just as well as a machine torch. Plus you’ll have the 75° hand held for chopping up larger plates to fit on your table.

Glad my write-up is helpful! The only advantage to buying the “package” kits with multiple torches is you save a few bucks in the long run if you ever were to buy another torch later on down the road. I wanna say it was about $100-120 difference to buy a separate torch outright.

Can’t go wrong having a hand torch around, never know what you’ll need to ninjee-chop.

:slightly_smiling_face: Nice term.

I think for anyone who isn’t already a hand plasma cutting person, this is actually a good benefit. If your introduction to plasma cutting is the Crossfire & CNC, it’s very handy to be able to cut stuff by hand - even if it’s a quick cut off or slicing material up to square it off.

do you recall where you got those numbers? The cheapest I can find a hand torch for the 45XP is at Baker’s for $340. Their individual machine torch is more than that.

I’d love to have an actual machine torch, and for $120 more have a hand torch.

Not off hand, I can look later.

I meant you would save $100-120 by purchasing the model with multiple torches, versus buying a separate hand torch by itself later on. Not a torch for $120, if you thought that’s what I meant.

No worries. I understand what you mean now.

Have you had any issues keeping your modified 15 degree torch perpendicular to the cutting surface?
