Where to locate the plasma cutter

Question for those using the Crossfire table with the plasma cutter located under the water tray. Any regrets or tales of woe regarding having the plasma cutter close to the splash zone?

cutter on wall is best and safest.

Mine’s lived underneath the splash zone for a couple of years.

I have my plasma cutter under the water table and have not had any problems with that. However, I am a ‘hobby’ user so less apt to splash than the serious guys. I also have my table virtually surrounded with a welding curtain while in use to contain the sparks and that does also tend to restrict the splashing as well.

I did move the electronics to a splash proof enclosure as I did not consider the original CrossFire enclosure safe.

Mine was originally under the tray for several months with no issues. However, I moved it when I was trying to solve EMI issues. I also found myself wanting to drag it out from under there to use my cutter for other purposes, so I ended up moving it to a HF movers dolly next to the table. Now I can just disconnect the machine torch, roll the cutter where I need it, and connect the hand torch.

If you put it under the tray, I would recommend the end opposite the LS controller box just to minimize EMI risk.

I wouldn’t put my hypertherm underneath the table.

Maybe I’d consider putting an Everlast or a Razorweld under the table.

Considering you could buy almost three of them for the cost of hypertherm.

When I start cutting on a frozen table there’s a lot of splashy splash.

Good point! I put my Lotos el cheapo PC under the table, but wouldn’t put MY Hypertherm under the table, if I had one. I might put your Hypertherm under my table, however…

You could buy five of them for a Hypertherm

If I used it constantly, I’d probably have to!

Penalty for being exiled to a frozen wasteland. Can’t you let some of your sled dogs sleep under the table so rising body heat will keep the table thawed?

I feel same as @TomWS regarding risk to my Cut60. It’s on it’s last leg anyway. Amperage (on gauge anyway) constantly shows fluctuations of 3-5amps even when not cutting. It’s almost 5yrs old and I paid about $600 new. It’s been really good for no more than it cost. I used it a lot before I got the CFPro. It may be donated to a nephew in the near future.

I gotta agree though, if I had a Hypertherm it’d be on a shelf on the wall. They are definitely fine pieces of equipment. Friend has a 85 synch attached to a 4x8’ table. Yes, I hate him.

What’s wrong with that?

Although I guess I can understand if some of y’all JB welded your table seams

You can mount your plasma cutter were ever you want . Its your 240 volt 50 amp circuit your plasma cutter is plugged into. Under a tub full of water would be a great place to put it.

When I first was setting up my Pro and Plasma cutter I debated about locating my Plasma cutter under the water pan. After all, plenty of room ! What could possibly go wrong? The debate in my head lasted about 3 or possibly 4 seconds. Yes, it would probably work out just fine but for me the final issue was that there were gallons of water that were just patiently waiting to ruin my Plasma cutter REGARDLESS of how it could happen!
I do not worry about it now at all because it isn’t under there AND since it is now at a height that my tired old eyes can see it clearly without bending over trying to see it way down there!!
And yes, I am old !!
As always gents: do what works for you!
