Urgent help! Machine status:unknown

@langmuir-sam or anyone else who knows the fix
So i have a job that is supposed to go out Monday and I cannot get more than one bend before the machine goes to “machine status: Unknown” and the machine is useless. no buttons work and I have to reset the machine or just do a hard shutoff.

I was advised that a cord comes loose so I checked that again and it was properly seated at both ends. I know people have had issues with SD cards seating and needing to be re-flashed so I pulled mine and immediately lost it into the dark impenetrable lower realm of the enclosure. I spent 30minutes with an air hose trying to locate and recover the SD card but i have not even seen it. so now I am doing a new SD card and praying it will get me back in business.

I need a solution to the Machine status Unknown issue. this issue has come and gone since i got the machine at the beginning of the year but tonight its so persistent that I cant get my job done.

Please help. I am on my last nerve

P.S. would it kill you guys to put an access port at the back of the machine? permanently loosing my SD card in a 12x30 inch space is ridiculous.

I did not think access to the SD was bad at all. I don’t see any need for a remote access port IMO

Update:

flashed A new 256 SD card. Did not work. As per other posts I ordered a 128 SD card and flashed it. Did not work. Tried again. Did not work. All I ever get in the orange pi screen when I turn on the machine.
Tried again to recover my old SD card but no luck. I am in bad need of technical help here.

I saw people were having trouble with SD cards for awhile. But I blew it off as I had not had any problems with mine untill a week or so ago. On boot up it was just a blank screen.
I was able to shut it on and off several times and it did boot, but the next day would not boot at all.
Called Sam and he sent a new SD card with updated software, works fine now.
I was like you I waited before addressing the problem, only difference I did not have a job due Monday!

The connection causing that empty LIVE REPORT display is this one:

I would double check that that is plugged in. If that does not work, then I would swap which of the four USB-A ports the cord is plugged into on the upper CPU. If that does not work, then let me know and I can get you sent out a replacement control board. The contact email for that is support@langmuirsystems.com

I appreciate the response however I can’t troubleshoot this issue until I get a working SD card back in my machine. any thought on my last post about flashing a new SD card?

I also sent an email to support. If that’s you getting the support emails, I’m sorry to attack you from two directions. I am just desperate to get a solution. Thanks

Some brands of SD card don’t work that well. I will get you out some replacement parts right away. Thanks for sending that support email so I could find your account.

For finding the lost card (and access to the cabinet in general) I have found that removing the screen is the easiest solution. Four screws up top on the cover and four screws on the screen I think.

I wonder if someone could retroactively install something like this to have a remote exterior location for the SD card.

I have, and it works great. I had to mount it on the side because the cable is only 12 inches long. Mine is just like that, but made of aluminum. Ensure you purchase the model with a 12-inch cable.

I ordered one. My frustration over this and the subsequent delays made me want to burn my garage to the ground and walk away. I am better now and thanks to help from my software engineer father and the responsiveness of @langmuir-sam I’m back in business and the machine is functioning well but if I had another incident where I could not recover a dropped SD card I would resolve the issue with a plasma torch and a hammer.

It’s a really good idea. Though from the start we never intended for the customer to have to take the SD card in and out. It was only the requirement to overhaul the memory system of the machine that put us in that position. Hopefully we won’t need to request customers to do this again and future updates will all be USB drive updates.

Choppy hammer

I used a different hammer the other day…it turned out it was my cell phone and I had to stop myself.

Lineman pliers are my go-to.

That boy looks stout enough to drive that stake in with a pair of pliers . My impact drill doubles as a hammer and so does the back of my sawzall. I really wish one of the tool companies would make a combination impact driver/ hammer.

Those are all great options but That list isn’t exhaustive enough. Really anything in my vicinity with a little mass and a handle shaped end will do and often that’s not even necessary.
