Try inserting (opening) a DXF

I have a DXF an old boyfriend of one of my daughters set me and asked me to cut. I know I had some issues in the past inserting an SVG but not sure if it is me of the file. Someone want to have a shot?

I tried to open it with a variety of tools, but didn’t get anything useful…

I got the impression that it was a 3D Mesh, which would probably be better saved as an STL file and then imported into a CAD program.

He sent it over again and I was able to open it right up as an igs and an stp. I think it may have had something to do with him having extruded it when he modeled the part.
