There is a triumph in the project section that had an exhaust manifold built.
Who owns the triumph and when do we get a build thread?
That’s mine! It’s a 67 Triumph GT-6. I did all the fabrication on it before we built the first prototype cnc table and the frustration associated with cutting brackets the “old” way was a major motivating factor in wanting to start Langmuir Systems. At the time there was just no realistic options for the hobbyist car guys (like me) to purchase a small and affordable yet very capable cnc plasma table. It’s been extremey rewarding to be able to deliver that capability to our customers.
Since I was a kid i’ve always loved the Triumph GT-6 body styling. So when i had the oppurtunity to buy a non running original mk1, i took it. My initial plan was to restore it but it had so much rust in it that i changed gears and decided to go the modified route:
- Duratec 2.3L w/megajolt electronic ignition and dual Weber 45’s on a custom intake manifold. Probably will throw some good cams in it to get around the 200bhp mark. I lost about 200 pounds compared to the original 95hp 6 cylinder. The motor is also mounted pretty far back to as close to 50/50 weight as possible.
- Custom front hubs with Acura Integra vented brake rotors and volvo calipers
- Adjustable front coilovers
- I cut the frame in half and threw away the back half and built an independent rear suspension subframe using miata A-arms and hubs, QA1 coilovers, and subaru rx turbo LSD third member.
- Goal weight of 1800lb
I finished all of the fabrication and a lot of the painting, but starting a family has brought progress to a screeching halt. Well worth it, the car will always be there.
Thanks for the info! I too was wondering about that car. Congrats on the family! I’m now eleven years down that road, which is the greatest adventure! I’m just now getting around to rekindling an airplane project that started collecting dust when our oldest was born. You’re off to an exciting and admirable start with the new company. Now get that kid making stuff!
That’s great! and congrats on the start of your family!
I have been a Datsun z car enthusiast since I could drive. owned almost every model up to 2005. there is a special place in my heart for the triumph “Datsun stole the look”. I now restore classic minis and sprites so British cars are my new passion.
After this thread was created, I really started thinking a lot about this build and figured i should start back up on it! Being a dad to a 1.5 year old with another on the way, I get about 15 minutes at any one time to get anything done. But i’ve been having a blast and my daughter loves spending time in the garage with me.
I hit a big milestone this weekend and got the engine fired up. Man does it ever sound good. I’ll try to get a video up soon.
I’ve got monstaliner bedliner on order and I’ll use that to spray the firewall and the underside, which are currently in primer. Once thats done I just need to run brake lines and install the CV axles and the body can go on for good!
sick
its good feeling to get the engine running
looking good! thanks for the updates!
