Torch Wont Fire

I have suddenly incurred an issue where my torch wont fire at all. With a file, manually, nothing.
I have restarted every program, plugged and unplugged machinery. Tried all of the easy things.

The error code I got suddenly was a pierce delay warning, but I dont believe that is where my issue lies.

Ground has been cleaned, checked, moved etc.

Changed consumables, air pressure is great.

Really strange because the machine was running fine then all of a sudden I’m on day two of troubleshooting.

Recently upgraded to a machine torch that has about 2 hours of cut time on it.

I am running an Everlast Power Plasma 52i

These are just standard questions. Please send pictures of your torch mounted on the machine.
Do you hear airflow during the cut initiation? What is your air pressure while it trying to fire from the front of the plasma cutter?

Hook the hand torch up and see if it pilot arc when you pull the trigger. If it doesn’t pilot arc then it could be the fuse. If it does then its not the plasma cutter. What machine torch do you have and were did you get it?

I just had this problem with my Everlast 50 torch head. My original torch head (IPT60) burned up. The unit I replaced it with had a sticky plunger. I sprayed some silicone lube into the the small holes and manipulated the plunger manually. It now works as designed…manually and on the Crossfire.

I have most definitely been clamping to the torch head. I assumed the mounting was going to be the same as the original handheld torch. I haven’t been able to figure out the problem still and I have really missed my machine. Going back to making cute by cutting wheel is no bueno.

Did you ever figure out what happened? Did you find a fix? I am experiencing the same thing. The hand held fires with trigger pull. When using firecontrol and on the machine torch head I got nothing.

What plasma cutter?
Do you have the on/off trigger wires installed correctly?
What torch?
Were did you get the torch?
How are you mounting the torch?
What is your flow air pressure?
Lets start with these.

Are you saying neither torch works through Firecontrol, but the hand torch fires with the trigger.

That’s the clue to the problem. The problem lies somewhere between the torch firing relay in the electronics enclosure and your plasma cutter.

Does the relay click when you hit the torch fire button in Firecontrol?

Is the torch on/off wire connected to the electronics enclosure and the plasma cutter?

Did you check the torch on/off wire to make sure it’s not broken on either end? It’s easy to step on the wire and break the plug off.

Plasma: Primeweld Cut60
Wired correctly: Yes
Torch: Machine torch from Primeweld. Previously, clamped near the torch head, now on the body. plunger was free when clamped to head and still free now clamped to body.
Flow: 65psi per recommendations for 1/3 in aluminum plate @ 50amps.

Hand held works with trigger. Machine torch does not. I hear the air come on but nothing else. I don’t believe the relay clicks.
Everything was working fine, I used it a few months ago cutting out a lot of signs, got busy with other things and stopped using for a bit, went to cut some stuff yesterday and now I have this problem.

70 psi to 75 Mech torch needs more air flow to activate the pilot arc. Question? Has it ever worked?
Some one just recently had a primeweld torch like your that the pins on the euro connector where in the wrong place.

I will try more PSI,
Yes it had been working no problems. Early on I had a problem with the THC (red chip) board, it was faulty from factory. It was reading 300v while machine was off. Once I replaced that all was good.

At least 70 and I believe it will work.

If the air comes on, the relay is working and the problem is in the torch. The electrode needs to be able to blow back to initiate the arc.

As @ds690 has said if your getting air then it may net be enough or the temp is to low in the shop and the torch is to cold or frozen. Make sure the electrode moves in and out freely. If you have some silicone spray or even WD40 lube the plunger that the electrode screws in to. Make sure you turn on the air set a few times to blow out any excess lube before firing the torch. Flow pressure is when air is coming from the torch 65 to 70psi not standing pressure. Also you may want to take all the consumables that are working from the hand torch and put them on the machine torch as you know they work.

relay does click
