Ok so im running a 62i Everlast CnC plasma on my crossfire pro. I havent made one cut after having the table for 4 months…ive fixed problem after problem…now when i turn the plasma cutter on it fires up immediately (torch doesnt move just fires up) then it turns off and throws a code for stuck torch switch (ive loosened the consumables, cleaned them, changed them, etc). I thought i had the firing pins crossed so i resodered them yet it still fires as soon as i turn the machine on…its in CNC mode so it shouldnt be firing…ive named this table “Herpes” since its the gift that keeps on giving. Im at the point of giving up if i cant make a cut soon. Help anyone
You probably can’t share photos yet but it would be really helpful to know how the Torch on/off is wired. You should be able to use a Volt/ohm tester with the machine unplugged and find where the torch on/off is shorting out. Perhaps it is something inside the torch but you should be able to go thru the wires/connections/switches and find where that problem is.
Sorry you are having all these issues.
Is the plasma hooke up to the table?
If yes, disconnect it (torch fire and voltage to THC) and then see if hte torch fires when you turn it on.
That will isolate the problem with the plasma, wiring, or the control box.
I unhooked it from the CNC port on the back and turned it on. It didnt fire up
I wired it exactly how their uninformative chart said to do it. Even unhooked the torch firing pins from the the 1&2 spots and swapped them. That make 3 connectors ive destroyed
Should have asked someone before you started modifying pins and plugs. Could have told you that for the torch fire there is no polarity, it is just closing a circuit.
What else did you modify?
The torch firing circuit is just a relay closing a loop. It doesn’t matter which wire is connected to pin 1 or pin 2.
Confirm that you have it plugged in to the port that says “torch on/off” on the electronics enclosure. A number of people have mistakenly plugged it into the plastic VIM box.
If it fires when you turn it on, the loop is closed somewhere. Test the torch on/off relay by checking for continuity between the inside and outside of the port on the front of the electronics enclosure. If there is continuity between the center pin and the outer shell, the relay is stuck closed.
TinMan, I love that movie.
Same exact story I have. not fun so far.
Welcome aboard,
Unhook the on/off cable and see if it still fires. Is this the torch that came with the plasma cutter?
Thank you for your time SIR. Yes it is, To add the old plasma machine did the same thing it would fire when I turned on the plasma machine then off and post air then off. I unhooked the on off cable and it did not fire.
That seems to indicate that the torch relay in the electronics enclosure is stuck in the closed position. Contact Langmuir for a replacement.
First thing is to check the wiring and make sure there is no wires touching each other causing a short. If that is not the case then as @ds690 said contact Langmuir.
If the cable was disconnected from the control box then it could be the relay or the wiring inside. If the cable was disconnected from the plasma, then the cable may be shorted. Or plugged into the wrong port. I can’t remember if there’s multiple two pin ports on those or not
I was told it could be a stuck switch I just replace it and that was not the problem. I will try what you described. I had big plans for this machine so far no fun just frustration.
What plasma cutter do you have? Did you unplug the on/off cable from the plasma cutter? Did you unplug the on/off cable from the control box? Did you ohm out the on/off wires for a short?
Hello thank for your reply. When I bought the cnc crossfire, It came with a Cornwell MMWP375DVI because it was not a high frequency machine. It did the same thing even with the two wires feed through the air grid. I would plug it in and the torch would fire then shut off the air shut off. I bought a bestarc BTC500xp with a cnc port and when it was turned on the torch fired then shut off then air shut down. When I unplugged the on/off barrel plug from the box It would hand fire and cut a beautiful 23 inch 1/4 inch steel 10 ipm if I held the trigger. Also it might be a coincident but when I jiggled the wires close to the box it seemed to interrupt the flame momentarilly. As if there was a loose connection in the box somewhere. Thanks mechanic416
As I said before, the fact that machine works correctly when unplugged from the torch on/off port means that the plasma cutter is fine.
The problem lies in your wiring of the torch on/off cable to the machine or the torch on/off relay inside the electronics enclosure of the table.
What “switch” did you replace?
Torch relay. Thank you.
