This was a first, just yesterday while cutting .38" steel parts for a power company. Cuts were going pretty well on the first 8 parts. Only thing was I had to make adjustments to my pierce delay, as well as as pierce and cut heights. After making these adjustments, I started the ninth of 14 of these. Well, I watched it proceed through a cut, but instead of retracting and stopping the arc, the torch stayed firing, not retracting but in fact rapidly dragging the tip of the shield across the steel to the next cut at which point it burrowed into that spot while continuing to fire (see attached photo). Of course, I swiftly stopped the program. The shield is ruined. Two more ordered. I am running the Razorweld 45A on the Crossfire XR.
Thankfully, there is not a rush on them receiving these parts, but hopefully I can still have them done by Sunday as requested, but minus one part on the purchase order. Boo!
Anyway, anyone have an idea as to what happened to have caused this?
I appreciate any advice and I am grateful for such an active community in this forum! I am in Waxahachie, TX.
