Tim's 2 x 48 Belt Grinder

Got some more done on the Belt Grinder, the mechanical part I believe is done. I need to paint it and work on the control panel. Since I plan on having it on a cart, I plan on putting the VFD in a box on the second shelf down and probably 3D print an enclosure for the control panel.

Anyway it looks as though I will have plenty flexibility with both the platen and the work rest being able to move. More then I need for my current desire.

@DS690 I’m curious about the angle of the that the platen and work rest arms are at. I drilled the holes right where they were marked from Tim Welds, maybe my motor is just a little off. It doesn’t appear to be a big problem but it would have been nice to have them at 90°. I might just shim the motor up a bit on the front side. I don’t think you can see it in the photo but the angle gauge is set on 90°.

I did have a little conflict with the spring, with a little manipulation in the vice and I have that resolved.

And a couple more shots for kicks and grins.

I’ve never even checked to see if they were parallel. I just make sure the platen and the rest are square to each other. The spring thing is something that I encountered as well. I have been meaning to re-design that part, but its not high on my list of things to do.

Ive got one of Beck’s Shredders. Spring issue was solved with a gas strut.
