This is pissing me off! any ideas?

I have an XR that is fairly new, probably have done about 10 or so cuts on it. Worked fine last night. Had a pretty big project to cut today so I changed my consumables for fresh ones and made sure my filter and desicant in my lines were nice and dry and went to run the file. Upon trying to run the file, the torch would not fire and made that noise from the plasma machine. I got a voltage warning saying there was a problem with my voltage. Ive tried making sure my consumables were installed right multiple times and nozzle wasnt too tight, made sure the tip was moving up and down which it was, checked my ground multiple times and still the same thing. I tried to fire the torch manually and the meter on fire control said my volts were 3.3 then they would instantly shoot up to like 300v. Ive tired everything I know and read on here to do and nothing fixes the problem. My torch and ground are directly wired to the lugs in the machine. Like i said the night before everything was fine. The only thing I changed was my air pressure from 65psi to 55psi and the consumables. Very frustrating. Oh I have an everlast 82i with machine torch.

I assume you tried bumping it back up? 55psi seems quite low for the 82i. I’d bump it up to 75 psi min. Are running a machine torch? What size consumables are you running?

Duuuuuuude!!! That was it!!! I turned it back up and it fired right up. I never thought in a million years psi would have anything to do with voltage. Man i owe you one thank you!!!

Air doesn’t have anything to do with voltage, but you need enough pressure to blow back the electrode to fire the torch.

The electrode blowing back makes the electrical connection to fire the pilot arc. The pilot arc is what makes the electrical connection to the metal, which starts the cutting arc.

That makes perfect sense. Thank you for explaining that and your help!!
