Thermal Dynamics PAK Master 38xl

Hey I am about to buy one of the crossfires and was wondering if anyone has used a Thermal Dynamics PAK Master 38xl with their crossfire and if so what they needed to do to make it work?

So long as it’s a blow back start, not HF, it will be the same as any other. You will have to pop open the case and find the trigger wires at the connection port and wire it in for the table control.

If you get the Z axis upgrade and THC, then you will want to tap raw voltage off the Pos and Neg torch tremnials to go to the VIM box.

Welcome to the forum. Considering that that Plasma Cutter was made before I was born (JK, not really) it is unlikely to be a Blowback start plasma cutter. It is even more unlikely that you’ll find consumables for it.

If you’re investing in a new CrossFire system, I HIGHLY recommend that you get a NEW Plasma Cutter that clearly states Blowback Start and one that is proven reliable and effective. Search this forum for recommendations. Everlast PCs seem popular and well liked. You’ll have no trouble getting advice and parts.

Would the Everlast be a better choice then the Razorweld or Hypertherm (the cutter that langmuir offers). Also do you have a recommendation for cutters that are great at cutting 16 gauge metal?

Hypertherm is in a class all its own. If you can afford Hypertherm, definitely get that!

The next tier down includes Everlast, Razorweld, Prime Weld, and a number of others. There are lots of discussions in this thread on each one. I’m not sure one overwhelmingly stands out and most people have their fav.

The key point here is that the PC is the ESSENTIAL component in this tool. Don’t go cheap if you want to have a useful and pleasurable experience with this tool.

The Hypertherm powermax45xp with cpc and machine torch is top shelf up to 1/2". Yes it can do a little more but for most people it will do what they need.

My next choice would be the Everlast 62i cnc package for the money and 5 year warranty.

@TomWS & @mechanic416 , I was leaning towards the Everlast 62i because it seems like it is able to cut 16 gauge steel well. But I am concerned with the duty cycles and if I am want to do cuts all day it would not be able to keep up. Would the Hypertherm powermax 45xp be able to cut 16 gauge for a full day or is this an unrealistic expectation for any PC? Also is there any concern with the Hypertherm powermax 45xp being too big to cut 16 gauge cleanly?

Not at all the PowerMax 45 XP has fine cut consumables and can make very nice work of thin materials and also do nice work on thick materials.

And whether it could run all day or not would really depend on how much cut time verse how much travel time and what your reload time is between sheets. In the manual there is a chart with duty cycles that you can compare against your expectations.

Do you guys have any opinions on the CUT60 Dual Voltage 110v/220v 60-Amp Plasma Cutter? It seems to have a high duty cycle

It can be good. It sounds like your running production so I wouldn’t mess around at all and just buy a bigger hypertherm then you can have all the duty cycle you want and have your inches per minute faster.

would you recommend purchasing the hypertherm through langmuir or buy it somewhere else?

If your only cutting 16 gauge metal with a Everlast 62i it is a 60% duty cycle at 60 amp and 100% at 30/40 amp were you would be doing most of your cutting. Yes you could run it all day.

You can also run the Hypertherm 45 XP all day on 30/35 amps.

I don’t know what cut60 your talking about but most 60 amp plasma cutters will work at 30/40 amps for 16 gauge cutting all day.

But I would still stick with the Hypertherm 45xp or the Everlast 62i. But that would be your call.

You can get the complete Hypertherm kit from Langmuir for the table you want.
