Thermal dynamics cutmaster 42 - inconsistent start times

hello,

i received my crossfire a week or 2 ago, and i dont have much time to mess with it so i spend 20 min here and there on it. today i finally got to the point of being able to cut out the first part.

from the time of trigger being activated, until the torch actually begins to fire is excessively long, but more importantly, inconsistent. i saw another member on here posted having a similar problem but he never reported back if he was able to resolve the issue. the first start up takes a really long time, but the other starts after the first are much slower. im not familiar enough with this stuff to know if i can change the delay per start, from what i can tell its just the same delay for each start.

this exact plasma cutter is listed on langmuir’s website as being compatible with the crossfire, so i can only imagine that means that it is actually compatible and there must be some sort of a fix for this?

i called thermal dynamics and it would have been more helpful to bang myself in the nuts with a baseball bat than it was to talk to the woman in tech support regarding the issue.

any help would be greatly appreciated. im not sure what to do at this point!

Until you get a better solution, this is what I’m doing. I just get the cutter to an out of the way spot and hit F5 and start the torch for a second and turn it back off before I hit start on the program.

i actually had that same thought, ill give that a try. what are you using for the delay time doing it that way?

I’m usually running at 40 amps on 14 gauge metal. I’ve had it 1 second for a while now, but I’m thinking .75 would be better. Maybe even .5

I use an older Cutmaster 39 and I have noticed similar variable delays. I find that changing the Pierce Delay to 1.5 seconds is usually sufficient to pierce before the actual cut starts. Just make sure that you use a lead in since you’ll have an excessive delay on some of the pierces. You can change the Pierce Delay in the Fusion 360 Post Processing pop-up.
