How does the Odie’s oil hold up? That’s an interesting coating idea.

Seems to be fine. I got the idea from another local fabricator. He uses sculpt noveau patinas and then puts odies on top.

You have to make sure you work it in well enough, and then buff it without waiting too long. I’ve also found that it’s best to leave it alone for a few days before handling it.

I like it because it enhances the mill scale look and doesn’t have the shine that a clear coat would.

Thanks man! I go through a lot of sandpaper. The Odies is good, but it’s tricky. I oiled and buffed then stripped and started over in this one 4 times trying to get it right. I think the heat was a factor. You also need to let it sit for a bit to not leave fingerprints.

So now that you have been using odie’s oil for awhile what are your thought about it?
I would like to try some but I see there are a whole a lot to choose from.

Did you find a finishing site or something when you first started using it?

I took the advice of a local guy when I first used it. I then started experimenting and have since gone back to the original method. Basically put it on with a white scotch brite then buff it off immediately.

Here’s one of the latest. The laser is really coming in handy.

Laser? Did I miss you getting a laser? Engraving type I take it?

and I see this? how many layers is this, I thought 3 but is it more?

I think I’ve mentioned it before, maybe not. It’s a small one. 20 watt xtool D1. 18x38 I think? It will cut 1/4 inch acrylic and wood.

That design is three layers. 16 gauge with 1/8 inch Baltic birch inside.
