THC Health Check Fails : Still working on it. Was a Bad air solenoid in the Neverlast 82i

Are you trying to mimic @TinWhisperer ?

We have the water trap on it that came with it… have a desiccant trap/filter as well just need to get it inline… I’ve never ran more than a standard water trap on a plasma and never had an issue with them… even building car trailers every day and doing a ton of cutting… but maybe these 82i’s are just more sensitive to it than the hobart units or whatever they were we were using for that … anyway

I’ll get on it when I get back

This maybe the reason you are now having issues with your Everlast solenoid.

In your Everlast manual page 16 it stresses the need for additional filtration.

“The regulator/filter included with the unit is not sufficient to remove moisture from the system.”

I would also disregard the statement “refrigerated air dryer not required” this would be a regionally and seasonally specific need. You may or may not need this to improve consumable life.

Wow… @TinWhisperer …Manualmaster…

this might help me explain why I get such good life out of my cosnumables…lol…

Ope ope ope… lol… well, thanks again… i’ll get on it when i get back. I’ll snag some fittings and plumb in his desiccant dryer as well… and spring the sprung spring… see if I can get my final design power distro panel cut for Back To The 50’s next week. Huge car show, and it’s their 50th anniversary.

But we got another Bakken BBQ in the bag and did another Make A Wish, even without the distro

Man… took the Neverlast apart… Stretched the spring… Still won’t arc.

Replacement solenoid arrives tomorrow, but I’ll be out on shows through monday… so… I guess we play with it next week, but this is driving me nuts… not convinced the solenoid is the only issue here

Also should mention, air now shuts off on it’s own, but, still fails to arc.

It arc’d first try on THC test, but has failed since… really thinking something is wrong with this unit…

It WILL arc if I touch the torch to the material… so… issue with Pilot Arc… still digging into this

Is the swirl ring installed. Also did you check the fuse.

Yeah Swirl ring is in it… checked the fuse and it’s good

Ok… just got off the phone with EVERlast… we’ll see if the new. name sticks…

They’re sending a replacement 82i out.

It WILL NOT pilot arc and everything else checks out…

So I’m not an idi… ok wait, so, I AM an idiot… BUT, that’s not what’s going on here

I got a new truck once, but it broke down. Unfortunately, they didn’t give me a new one, so I do think Everlast really stepped up to the plate.
And we don’t think you’re an idiot. Just frustrated.

Oh no no no, I did pull a couple idiot moves… so that stands.

Anyway… If you buy a brand new truck and it’s botched, most states have ‘lemon’ laws and you’ll get a new truck … you paid for a new truck, not a fixed one… When you’re like 2 weeks in and the machine is bad, it’s only right.

I’m sure they’re sending a refurb… whatever… as long as it works… I don’t care.
This thing was intermittently funky, and I thought most of it was ME… only SOME of it was me… I’m just glad I’m not dumber than I thought

We’ll be back, in force, soon…

Also, someone mentioned I should be on Tip Saver, but I could have swore manual said no… and I confirmed that again today, it specifically says it shouldn’t be used for CNC… well, specifically, it says:

“Tip Saver Start. In this mode the torch supplies the pilot arc for approximately 3 seconds before terminating the arc. This limits pilot arc on time and helps save consumables. Use this mode if you are hand cutting on long, continuous cuts. If the cut is lost, the torch must be retriggered to restart the cut, so CNC cuttingis not recommended with this engaged.”

So are you guys running auto restart or tip saver? I had been on auto restart

Not that any of that is my specific issue at the moment… I was cutting parts. Until it failed to pilot arc…

Again… THANK YOU GUYS for the help… learning as I go…

I have been running tip saver, but it also works fine on auto start. The other button to CNC, not lock or unlock.
The truck was fine it was just a parable.
