Text in inkscape question

Hello All, learning all these programs and ultimately being on overload of info I took some time off.
I’m back to a project i started and I’m using inscape to make this address sign. Before i go much further i’m in need of some help with the text.

  1. Is it possible to fix the font in “miller street” so it is not jagged? I assume that will create an issue while cutting.
    OR
  2. do i need to pick a different font?
I would like the letters to be completely removed, so you see through them, if that makes sense. Thanks

Single line fonts do cut,. And you can see them.

Just have to play with pierce delay to avoided a big hole at start, last line was single line font. 20ga ss

have you looked at dafont.com?
lots of free stuff there for fonts.
so your jagged font will come out jagged…what you design will be cut…

so if you are looking at what is called reverse cut…all that is black is cut out…then you have other problems…
the “O” and “R” in Fourty…will fall apart as the centers of the letters are not touching other white pieces…
Look at the sample provided above…it shows how letters need to be

i’m using 16 G steel would i lessen the pierce delay then my normal amount?
I assume i would cut that center with no offset too?

Since the font i chose is jagged do i need to choose a smoother font for “MILLER STREET”

I have not looked there but i will now! thanks!
I’ll remember that
“design will cut”!

I had not even begun to look at the problems with “FOURTY” yet! :grinning:
I did see that i could make a tab on them so they don’t fall out. OR simply use a stencil font!?

If I was questioning it , grab a pc of scrap and cut a few letters . Then decide if I like it. Cut a couple of times adjusting setting till I’m happy. Then finish the design

great idea! thanks.

If I’m not finished in inkscape but need to stop for the day do i just hit save? save as??

If new either will work, if modifying from something else save as

yes it was new today.

Save and save often is my moto. I do cad work all day everyday, nothing worse than losing a half days work because you haven’t saved and the computer crashes.

OH GOD i would hate to do this all day long!!! I’m lucky to get this far!
Lets not even talk about FUSION!!!

One thing to keep in mind when using a vector drawing program is to be sure you’re looking at the vector image and not the “raster” (pixel) image. Everything will look jagged in raster view because it’s pixels and it can only be enlarged or zoomed in to a certain extent. Also, a lot of cheap fonts or some of the google ones even, will have odd nodes when converted to curves so there is always that possibility.

After converting text to path you can use simplify tool in Path menu to get rid of unnecessary nodes. Still might have to manually edit but saves some time.

I didn’t know that fonts were also raster, thanks for the heads up

That will make it easier, thanks

They aren’t automatically raster, you just need to confirm what you’re seeing is vector or raster. If you convert it to curves and you’ve got a crap ton of nodes then it’s just a messy complicated font.

Thanks! I keep that in mind too.

I could use some insight, Could someone look at this SVG for me before i go any further?
I was about to start making everything a path and combining them, I just noticed that i can not make the outside line/rectangle my cut line. What am i missing?

Also i need to make the tabs in some letters so they don’t fall out. thanksI’m not seeing the file here?
Tree Sign

You’re missing an outside rectangle. I think you’re mistaking the bounding box for a cut-able graphic. It isn’t. You need to draw a rectangle.
