Strange reason for inability to cut?

Got a question, so I was trying to make a cut and the plasma cutter kept dying because of loss of voltage. I tried reducing the pierce height, that didn’t work. Then I increased the amperage, it still couldn’t cut through. Then I increased the amperage further, still couldn’t cut through. Then I got a hunch, I set the settings back to the way they were, then I made the cut in a different spot of the metal (which was even further away from the ground) and it worked fine. Why? Can anyone give an explanation?

I had similar issues with a piece of 16ga. I talked to the supplier and the only thing we could figure was the mill scale was causing it. Flipped it over and no problems on the other side…

what type of plasma are you using…some plasma units are known for bad material clamps…clean off where your clamp is…scratch the surface with the clamp to make better contact.

keep in mind…the work clamp is not ground…I got chastised for referring to it like that also…
