Here is some work I have been doing for customers. Go give my wife’s business page a like on facebook, I do the metal cutouts for her customers. Below are just a few recent ones.
I love the idea of cutting old saw blades. I am still at a loss on where to buy material. I had not considered scrap metal.
I Googled “metal plate suppliers” and found some good sources locally. That avoids shipping or delivery costs and can be a big savings vs. the local big box stores.
Scrap yards are also a source for used metal - lots of stuff out there that you can scavenge steel from depending on your project need - things like appliances and auto wrecks as well as general metal scrap yards are potential sources. It will depend on what they can get for the metal through their normal disposal channels as to whether they’ll supply you with useful stuff. I’m a member of our local Makerspace and find that people are often more willing to help me out than if I just show up as a guy off the street looking to buy it.
For years I bought my metal from onlinemetals.com
Sign up for an account and you should get an automatic 10% off. Sign up for coupons and they always have 15-25% off coupon codes. Every time they did 30% off the servers would crash lol
Shipping wasn’t too terrible. But I liked it because I can order 2x2 plate for a reasonable price and it would just show up packed all nice at my door.
Yep - they’re one of the local ones I found. Half the price of non-specialty suppliers that I’ve found around here. Close enough to run down & pick up instead of having them ship so I save on shipping costs (which can mount up due to weight and size). Nice people and a clean place.
