Smart guys tune in

Crossfire pro/ everlast 82i/ 11gauge steel 105ipm/ 40 amps/ 1.0mm nozzle/ 55psi.
Shit just died.

Started with a “we the people” cut.

Cut one fine with a everlast 82i using big daddy’s reccomend settings. 1/8 inch steel with thc.

Second cut was loosing thc voltage measurement And couldn’t maintain the arc. Some cut lines some not cut, beautiful straight lines then missing gaps. Looked like torch passed over with no plasma.

Disconnected the plasma cutter from cnc machine and ran a manual cut and the everlast 82i worked fine manually with hand held torch.

Switched back to the cnc machine and ran another we the people.

Some cuts some not, like the torch shuts off in certain portions. Ran a thc test and torch fired but with low voltage 36 vs 120 ish. Fired another we the people and the torch wouldnt fire.

Ran multiple thc test and torch stopped firing.

Checked continuity on torch firing line from cnc control box to back of plasma and zero connection during follow on thc test. Disconnected circuit and checked manually with volt meter

Disconnected box cover to see if relay was firing in cnc controlller, light click but no continuity with volt meter on main torch firing line from cnc control to back of 82i.

Removed relay and gave a love tap but no joy on firing torch on controls from cnc control box to back of 82i.

Someone smarter can probably see what I missed.

Thanks for your time fellas.

75 psi is always recommended. 55 psi won’t work. It may work for a minute or two, but ,then it can’t refire the torch.

75 psi on the front of the Everlast while it’s cutting.
We the people is a great sign to cut out.

Now that you went though that testing and flame out, replace the consumables, and follow @Bigdaddy2166 pressure recommendations and try again. If you start having voltage issues again, check to see of the USB plug in the control box is touching the cover. If so, shim it out (pull the cover and shim the board or put a piece of paper between the USB and the cover).

This USB touch issue is turning into my default first check thing since it bit me in the butt several times, and multiple other people.

If not, then follow the troubleshooting tree for THC on the Langmuir website.

Weird or im an idiot. Probably the latter.

Connected everything up after metering out a bunch of wires from cnc control.

Did a torch fire test after changing consumables and changing pressure like suggested and moving usb cable a little.

Torch still wouldnt fire or respond to thc test.

Shut down and reloaded program in firecontrol, moved x and y axis around and then it fired and responded.

Very appreciative for the input fellas. Somthing you guys said made ot happen.

Thanks fellas

Send picture of your torch mounted on the machine. I suspect an issue

Well, im definitely clamping in the wrong spot then with the ptm 80. I will send pics tomorrow after work.

Thanks for futher input and time.

Walk of shame I think? Need to build a clamp that goes on the upper housing i assume? Probably grab some aluminum stock tomorrow based on your thoughts.

You are using the hand torch mount. As you have surmised you will need a different mount for your machine torch. You can order a machine torch mount from Langmuir. There are allot of other options out there as well, I use a 3d printed one designed by @ds690. He has it posted on thingiverse.

Awesome, and thanks. That would be a great nylon print. I will give it a shot.

Watch this video to make sure your electrode is working correctly.

Will do, thank you so much.

Super bummer finder tonight, making more cuts after getting everything working. Torch wouldn’t fire again tonight and zero reading on THC test twice. Took housing off of CNC controller and my THC relay PSB is slightly falling out of main control board. pushed it back in and torched fired fine. I know I can probably bend the pins to a more tension setting and re-seat relay on main control board or would Langmuir send me a new one?

I’m pretty sure they will.

Or you can get a round torch holder that doesn’t crush your torch like the V-block style does. The Beck Tools Torch holder applies force all the way around and keeps the torch round and doesn’t bind up the internals. With this torch holder you can clamp on any part of the torch. Just gently tighten the clamp screws. Machine Torch Holder - Beck Tools
