Sheetcam Learning Issues

Hi All,

I am learning to use my Crossfire Pro on my own using U Tube what little i know about computers and common sense (and i think i might be slightly dyslexic :))

My plan is to use 2 laptops an older one that i have to run the Crossfire Pro on the machine itself in the garage and leave it there ready to go. And a newer laptop to do all of the drawing, downloading sheetcam etc in the house in a less harsh environment then when i have a drawing to Gcode put in on a USB drive and take it out into the Garage and put the USB drive in the older laptop and run it in Fire control. At least that is my current plan feel free to Poke holes in it and constructive criticism is welcome

I got the machine put together and i am able to run Fireshare cut ready files without any issues.

In my mind my next step is to be able to make Fireshare files that are NOT cut ready into cuttable files using Sheetcam. I have watched the u tube tutorials and gotten to the G code portion of the programming

However where i am getting hung up is im trying to download the G Code file to a USB stick to transfer to my garage laptop and whatever i am doing is not working.

To be clear my file organization, transferring and storage on my computer has never been very good.

Do i save everthing to my desktop?

create a cut file foler and store them in there?

because im downloading the files from the internet is it cloud based?

i am totally a fish out of water in this area.

Any Help will be appreciated.

Thank You

I don’t use Sheetcam, but like any application, any G-code files will be saved to a specific directory (folder).

You can either, learn and remember where that default directory is, or save it in your own folder and it should default to that for every other G-code file you create.

From there, just navigate to that folder and copy paste the G-code file(s) onto your thumb drive.

I never suggest anyone to ever save anything on their desktop as it will get cluttered easily. Nice thing about placing those files in a folder as well is that you can sort the folder by date and change how you view those files (list), thus allowing you to backtrack to any one file you cut on a specific date.

After its post processed does it automatically switch itself to a G Code file from a DXF file?

or is that something i need to type in manually?

dumb question i know but i dont know the answer

Thank You for helping me

Sheetcam is your CAM software, that turns your image (DXF in this case) into G-code.

I just installed Sheetcam myself, and created a G-code file and the directory for me shows as - Documents → Sheetcam POST → (G-code file.nc)

This is where your G-code files are stored whenever you process them in Sheetcam and you no longer need to do anything with the DXF.

Copy that file onto your thumb drive, and take that to your computer running Firecontrol.

If you need a live walk-through going over this, I’d be happy to help you via Zoom.

Thank You very much. I will give it a try and let you know.

Also thank you for the offer i might take you up on that if i continue to flounder.

It is much simpler just to save your gcodes on the designated thumb drive.

While I agree as that’s how I save my DXF’s to my thumb drive when I export them from Fusion, you need to consider the information shared by the author.

If he opts to save his files directly to the thumb drive, and one day he decides to post a file and forgets to plug in said drive, it will default to something like a desktop for a new directory. Far safer having all his files in one specific directory, rather than having it change each time a file is processed while jumbling with having a thumb drive inserted, or left plugged into the other computer.

Author stated trouble navigating through his computer, I’m proposing an easy consistent method.

This is a screen capture video of how to select the correct post processor in Sheetcam.

This video shows how to create a Jet Cutting tool in Sheetcam.

This video is a quick walkthrough of the process of importing a drawing and turning it into a cut file.

Another question

i am using a razerweld 45 with the hand torch.

in the tool selection drop down menu i see preset tool choices T1, T2, T3 etc. is there a place that i can find all of the different tool set ups for the razerweld 45 already set up and load into the program and modify as i go?

or do i add those manually as i go and build up my own tool set ups for different cutting scenerios as i go?

Create your own tools with the info provided on the razorweld cut chart that is floating around this forum somewhere.

I don’t recall what tools were already in the library, but you can be sure they will not work correctly for your plasma cutter.

Make sure to change the “plunge rate” to 50 to 60 IPM. The default rate is way too slow.
